I have about $600 saved and i REALLY want a new DSLR!
I have looked at a few, but idk which one to get!!!

nikons d40x is hands down the best camera you can buy for the money, i had a canon digital rebel xti then it got stolen so i went with the d40x. its a little more expensive than the d40, but worth it

Although the overwhelming support is always for Canon or Nikon, don't hesitate to fully investigate the Sony A100 and the Pentax K100D Super and K10D cameras.
The Sony accepts the entire line of lenses and accessories Minolta offered for their MAXXUM 35mm film cameras and their later DSLRs. It has Minolta's Anti-Shake in the camera body so any lens you use can benefit from it.
The Pentax DSLRs accept most every K-mount lens made since 1975 when Pentax introduced the K1000. Pentax has their Image Stabilization in the camera body so any lens you use can take advantage of it.
Visit your local professional camera store and handle the different cameras.

I'm happy with my Sony A100, which costs about $600 with not bad Minolta's kit lens. As for D40x, it has the same Sony's sensor, short-cut features, and you should get expensive lenses. I have a Canon EOS 1000D. Its a great entry level camera that takes beautiful photos. I got mine for $998 a year ago and it comes with 2 lenses a 18-55mm and a 75-300mm lense which is perfect and all you need to take great shots. At the moment You can get it for about $700 maybe. Its a great camera and does the trick. I got it for a photography course I was doing.

Nikons are great. I would recommend the d40. I have the d50 and it is awesome too. Easy to use. Auto settings are great and so are manual.
