I had a retinal detachment from an injury a few years back. If it's a retinal detachment like I had, you will completely lose vision in that part of the eye (i.e. it will be a big black spot or sheet). I had a 90% detachment in one eye, and it was like covering most of your eye with your hand. I had some floaters after the repair surgery (back to 20-18 in that eye), but my doctor said that they were nothing to worry about. They seem to come and go randomly but usually I don't even notice them. When it comes to your vision, it's better to be safe than sorry, so you might want to get your eyes looked at just in case.

I don't think it requires a visit to the ER, but I would certainly call your Optometrist and have them look at you. They will want to dilate you to check things out properly and if they suspect a possible detachment, they will refer you out to a retina specialist for treament.

Floaters are normal and harmless. Did you notice any flashes of light with them? Call your doctor, explain what you are experiencing and make an appointment to get in within the next day or two.

They may not understand, but I sure do. I think you should not wait. I also think that if you do not go now, then you need to go a.s.a.p. I am not sure your time zone, so I don't know what your time is. if it is not too late then go to a urgent care. I would call your nearest retina institute and see if you can get a doctor on call from that department. if not, then just do not lift, or bend over. Try to keep your head laid in a back position until you can get help. Your eyes are precious. Once you loose them then we can not get replacements. I am knowledgeable with macular degeneration.

98% of fresh floaters require no active treatment.
2% do, being the sign of early retinal detachment.
(the others are largely *vitreous* detachments, of no great significance)

You do need a retinal inspection with a dilated eye to sort one from the other.
It can certainly wait til morning, and if they can't see you til the next day, that's no problem either.

Have you had retina detachment recently? Floaters are very common and usually harmless.

I doubt if the hospital will do anything for you. However; I would get in to see the eye doctor ASAP. Do not pass go do not collect $200 go directly to Doctor!
