DEP is nothing.
It is just an appointment for you to show up to the MEPS to go to basic at a certain time.
No dog tags, no PT, nothing.
But you do take an oath when you sign up for DEP. If you fail to appear they don't do anything at all to you. You are ELSed by the MEPS commander and you never, ever, get another chance to join the service.
(of course, these days that might have changed a bit.)

I have been in the Navy for almost 12 years and when I joined, DEP was just waiting to got to bootcamp. These days the Delayed Entry Program is designed to prepare you for bootcamp. Each meeting you will receive training whether it is physical or mental. If you drop out of high school it will void your contract no matter which branch of service you join. The contract you sign locks in your job and date you leave. It also is a commitment on your end to maintain your eligibility to serve. If you drop out you will be dropped from the DEP and would have to enlist again. With that being said, the Navy and Marines cannot enlist anybody who doesn't have a high school diploma. Not to mention that the military doesn't view drop outs in a good light, it shows a lack of commitment. Good luck.

Just a side note, there's no DEP in guard or reserves. Reserve you're in the individual ready reserve, but you don't do anything or get paid. The only dif is you can't just drop your contract so easily cause you're really in & already belong to a specific unit. Guard is a bit different. You do have mandatory drills each month called RSP (recruit sustainment pgm), for which you DO get paid, and we do give you some stuff. Primarily local PT gear, but I understand we're going to start issuing ACUs in teh Spring sometime - we'll see if that happens.
Don't drop out of school though. You need a HS diploma to get in. Or at least a GED, but that'll limit your options. Jsut finish school & make a good decision about what's right for you.

Delayed Entry Program is a program in which you only enter if you make the oath after you go to MEPS the first time and were qualified.
You can expect PT if your recruiter has the decency to enforce it. It CAN be hard if they actually make the PT worth while, but your recruiter wont always be at your side while you run wherever you run, so you can walk but you better atleast be ready for Boot Camp.
When I was in AF DEP our recruiters took us 2 miles down the road and dropped us off and said run back to the station. And we did, followed by pushups and situps, pullups.
Marine DEPS I saw running down to the beach and back which is about the same distance and did the same things.
If you drop out of HS, you get dropped out of any chance in being in the military, unless you join the Army *cough* nah j/k but they are so much more lenient when it comes to joining.

You get nothing when you are in the DEP. The DEP is nothing more than an agreement between you and the selected service concerning start date, and training that you receive. The fact that you are a Senior in school means that the military expects you to obtain your diploma. If you quit school, you will in effect void part of your agreement with the selected service, as they expect you to graduate. Most ser vices require that you have a high school diploma in order to join.

Please don't drop out of school!
The delayed Entry Program is a method for the armed forces to sign you up before you are actually required to report to basic training ahead of time.
I did that in the Air Force a few years back. I was finishing a tech school in June and had signed up under the DEP because they still had the draft.
Needless to say, I had signed a contract and had to honor it when it came due in about a month after I finished school.

DEP is absolutely nothing other than a reservation for boot camp. Some recruiters encourage you to attend meetings but that's optional. You get nothing. You can dropout of DEP at any time and you don't need any reason.

the only thing you get out of the delayed entry program is that when your contract is up that is your active duty contract it shortens your inactive duty time. what they don't tell you is that you sign up for 8 years no matter what so lets say you have a 4 year active duty contract then after that you can get called back up to 4 years after you get out you don't have to do anything for the last four years unless you get called back into service. the DEP shortens the inactive time on your contract so if you do a year in the DEP program when you get out you can only get called back for up to three years not 4

Dropping out of school DISQUALIFIES you form entering military service.
the Delayed Entry Program is nothing more than a means for you to lock in a ship date and school for some date up to 12 months in the future. At most, you may have meetings weekly or monthly. No dog tags, no pay, no special privileges. You must agree to remain fully qualified(weight standards, get that HS diploma, not get pregnant or get somebody pregnant) while in DEP.
