I have given a great deal of thought about, "God", and "Spirituality". So, as you asked this question, I will share some of those thoughts with you. lol
Let's address the idea of, "Free Will" first. I use to believe that we had unlimited Free Will. I don't believe that any longer. We have *some* Free Will, but not anywhere near an unlimited amount. While we live out our lives here in this physical realm, we do have some choices to make. However, it is true that we also have predestined occurances, things we absolutely have no choice in. An example would be the death of a beloved child from a disease which the child/parent/doctors have absolutely no control over the outcome. The affects of that death, on both the child and his/her family, is not under the realm of free choice. Such a death is catostropic in nature, and will last the lifetime of those closest to the child, and of course the life of the child here in the physical realm if over. Where is Free Will in this matter? I am sure the family of the child would have choosen for the child to live, and the child probably would have as well. After all, we have deeply embeded Survival Instincts, which cause us to fight for life. Any Instincts we have are built in by God, as He created us. God wishes for us to stay alive as long as possible, and to discourage our self inflicted deaths when we become so deeply injured or hopeless we would rather die than continue to live. Most people do not succeed in suicide because of this Survival Instinct. So, that would be God interfering in somebodies wish to get out of life here. That sounds a bit like a dictatorship to me. As does the total lack of choice in whether or not our child will live or die.
Then we have the affects of other people's "Free Will". People are "free" to choose to murder, rape, and rob other's. Where is the "Free Will of these victims to choose to not have another harm them? Sounds to me like this reduces "Free Will", considerably. With God allowing his Children to harm each other, on the basis of Free Will, yet those who are harmed do not have the choice to avoid that harm, sounds like Dictatorship to me, as well as a great reduction in that very, "Free Will", which is so touted as unlimited.
Then, lets discuss the different levels of intelligence humans are born with. Those with higher levels of intelligence have the ability to make the highest degree of informed decisions, while those with the least amount of intelligence are most likely unable to make informed decisions, because they are incapable of understanding all of the many facets of a situation. Where is the Free Will for those who are unable to truly make informed choices? If somebody is incapable of understanding what is occuring, how are they then *freely* choosing? They can't, it is that simple. Those with less intelligence must depend on those with higher intelligence, and there isn't any way to ensure that those they rely on is providing them with the proper amount of knowledge, let alone being able to totally ensure that they really understand the choices available.
I can offer out many more examples of how our supposed, "Free Will", is not absolute, is in fact extremely limited, and not available across the board in an equal fashion.
So, while I do believe in God, I do not fully agree that we have an abundance of Free Will while we live in the physical realm.
It seems to me that God is in fact a dictator. I never thought He was anything less. In my own home, as a parent, I did not have a democracy, but more of a dictatorship. While I listened to what my children had to say, I certainly couldn't put issues up to any vote, as they outnumbered me, and they did not have the mental developement to understand the situations we faced, or how our choices could destroy our family and home if not made correctly. You don't allow the inmates to run the asylum. Somebody HAS to be in control, and that somebody had better be someone who fully understands ALL relevent data, and can make decisions based on the full picuture with a complete understanding of the affects and end results of all choices and situations.
We, the Children of God, do not have the capability to make fully informed decisions in our lives. There are many instances where we will not understand why God did this or that, but we have to trust He does all for our best interests. He is not out to harm us intentionally, but has our best interests always upper most in thought and deed. Just because we are incapable of understanding the ultimate good we will achive, doesn't mean it isn't for our good.
This is the same as the toddler who wants to run out into the street to retrieve h/her ball, and the parent grabs the child up and stops said child from being squashed by a car. All the child knows is s/he is being denied h/her ball, and that upsets the child so the child cries and doesn't understand that the parent did it for h/her own good.
In many instances God must be a dictatorship. However, to equate this with a human dictator is wrong. There isn't any real comparison to a human being how chooses dictatorship which always goes to the dictators own good, and not his/her people, while God is always working for us, for our good, our growth, and our spiritual life. He sees far into the future, long after we are shed of this physical world, and acts accordingly.
Just because we are not able, in the moment, able to understand why it is for our good, does not mean it isn't.
I trust my God to work in my best interests, far more than I would trust any human being in this world with me. I trust that all things which occur are for our good, and that someday we will look back and say, "Oh, I see why now!",and, "Thank you God for not granting that prayer I was so angry you seemed to ignore!". You get my drift here. lol
God is God. Regardless of who wishes to believe and who does not He still exists. He loves ALL of His children, not just the ones who believe in Him and have faith. In fact, He is more concerned for those who choose to walk away from Him, that for those who are following along nicely. As a parent, I am more concerned for my child who is not making the right choices and is harming h/herself, than for the child who is making the proper choices. I love all of them, and while I will praise the child(ren) who are doing well, I will focus more on those who are in trouble and who need more assistance. Just because somebody chooses to not believe, does not mean God does not exist.
When it comes to how we believe we do have total Free Will. That is the one area that each of us can fully make our own minds up and we each are allowed to do so. If God is OK with the choice of His children, why would anyone think they need to force others to their beliefs? Do they really believe God needs help in this area, or is pleased when some children force Him down the throats of other children, when He does not do this Himself?
So, yeah, if you wish to term it dictatorship, I can readily see how that term can be applied. However, as mentioned above, God bears no resemblence to a human dictator.

No, it's democratic, let me show you how.
People vote their favourite God by choosing their religion. Gods can be replaced, and it's happened in the past.
Over 2000 years ago, the Jews believed in their one God, but many weren't happy with him. Along came Jesus, had a new platform about forgiveness and charity, and then he's elected God!
Today some of his followers have been giving him a bad name, but instead of choosing a new god, they think the whole thing's pointless and don't vote at all. They're called Atheists.
There has been enough atheists to stop nations being church run, so it's almost as if God has been voted out!
But it's still almost impossible for an atheist to be elected president of the USA. But we'll get there in the end!
