strumming a guitar?

i have an acoustic guitar, and i want to play the song "if you're gone" by matchbox 20 how do you strum your guitar?

Assuming that the thing is in tune, and you know the chords, and you have a plectrum, listen to the song and work out the rhythm pattern. Then use the plectrum to strike the strings in that pattern. Hope this helps, but please post if you'd like more.
