I am a recent college graduate (maybe not so recent since it has been 6 months now) with a bachelors in Biological Sciences. I want to get into real estate development/ building and I honestly do not know how to go about it. you are probably asking why get a B.S. in Bio if real estate was what I wanted. The simplest answer is that in my final year in college I realized that medical school was not for me but instead real estate was what i wanted to pursue. So here I am 6 months later with no idea of how to go about getting into real estate development.

So my question is how should I go about pursuing this dream of mine? should I go back to school to study real estate development or try to get a job in a real estate development company and work my way up?

PLEASE HELP I need advise.

Thank you.

Hi Michelle. Congratulations! I say this because you may not yet realize how important it is to discover what you really want to do with your life. Its sounds like you know what your passion is (real estate development).

The best way to pursue a 'new career' is to talk with people who are already successful in the field. Call a few people in this field on the phone and explain to them your interest in their field as a career choice. Most people will be HAPPY to share their experience/knowledge with someone interested in their profession/career. Of course, you will have to talk or meet with them at a time that is convenient to them! So, on your first contact call, briefly explain your interest in their field as a career, and ask for a time that is convenient for them to speak or meet with you.

If you do not know anyone in this field, just drive around and pick up names and phone numbers from the 'for sale' signs on commercial properties or visit the type of real estate project you find interesting and talk to the people there (e.g. a residential subdivision).

Best wishes and good luck.

work your way up!

getting another degree in real estate or any degree related to real estate is a waste of time. even if you have graduated with a degree in real estate, you will start from nothing & work your way up.

unless if you want to build the houses, which is in the architectural department - a specialized area where you need skills, then you go back to school.

if you just want to get into real estate development, you can get into the business side of it. there are many jobs in real estate development, or even real estate related.
