It seemed as if everyone in Iraq had a weapon of some sort, almost all contractors had a weapon. But honestly, when I was on base the only fear I had was rocket/mortar/snipers. It was extremely rare to actually have anyone on the base kill someone else, either by accident or on purpose.

Contractors are screened and undergo scrutiny, most are former military/worked with the US government for years, and have proven themselves to be trustworthy.

Quite frankly fobbits wear weapons more like an accessory than anything else, kinda like people in America who wear their cell-phone on their belts. It's only there for show.

Some do, but most do not. It all depends on the contract.

The vast majority of KBR contractors working on FOBs do not carry weapons. The provide the life support for the FOB and never leave the FOB unless it's by aircraft.

Other contractors that serve specific missions such as training of Iraqi Security Forces do carry weapons even though they do not leave the FOB.

Private security contractors carry weapons for obvious reasons.

Contracted local nationals do not carry weapons, at least not while on duty.

Nope, civilian contractors are forbidden to carry weapons in Iraq.

Only security contractors are allowed to carry weapons.

IE:

The truck drivers, cooks, carpenters, etc, are not allowed to carry weapons.

They do, and they deserve them too, it would be stupid to go in the city with no weapon...

yes. my husband was not very happy when they were getting ready to leave for iraq and they were given their guns. the soldiers got theirs with the same strict rules as always when it comes to weapons. the contracters on the other hand...got to do whatever they wanted. take them out with them. go off base...for all they knew--they were buying bullets to come kill people!!!!

So...yeah. they are. but i think its less safe that they have them..because they could be equally as crazy as the gihads.
