I know I have read this verse many times. But it just really jumped out at me the other day. What do you think of it? Have you ever prayed for Jesus to do this for you?

Luke 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

Yes it's exciting when that happens - especially when you've read the passage many times - but when God gives a Rhema word that's when I'm reminded His word is alive and active - sharper than a double edge sword, cuts through joints and marrow, straight to the heart of a man...
Thanks for sharing - it's all part of building up the body of Christ. It's also encouraging to see so many people who love The Lord Jesus on here - some even have 11 thumbs up and not 1 single thumbs down - amazing!
God bless you abundanly brother..

That's the best way to learn the scriptures. If you don't have any understanding of the scriptures then what good does it do ? ASK Jesus for the understanding and reason for the scripture. If He doesn't seem to give you the answer right then, DON'T get discourged ,because He may want you to dig deeper. Don't be upset if you don't get an answer you want or get it right away. Jesus does things in His time and IT"S always on time. WE may not think so but it will be on time.

It means that we can cram scriptural accuracy down peoples throats until the cows come home, but without God taking an active part in people's understanding, we will have no effect.

Problem: Those with inaccurate Bibles believe that we are the ones that are blinded and Satan can use the same scripture to hide the truth....Paradox

We still have to keep trying, because we never know when God will use something that we say or do to bring light to one in darkness.

It is the work of the Holy Spirit now that Jesus ascended, just as He promised.

God has opened my understanding so much this past year that I remain overwhelmed as to where to look next.

I know this to be true when I state the facts that I have become aware of in the Bible, while those dependent upon traditional meanings cannot understand what the scriptures mean. I can even produce Greek or Hebrew definitions of words in verses, and many still don't adopt the meaning because it is new to them.

Ver. 45. If, after all the extraordinary opportunities of instruction, which the apostles had had from the mouth of our divine Saviour, it was still necessary that he should instil into them a new light, by opening their minds to understand the Scriptures; what are we to think of the presumptuous attempts of the numerous tribe of modern self-inspired interpreters, who are always ready to descant on the word of the Lord; though so perfectly ignorant that their authority, so far from being admitted, would be laughed to scorn, were they to attempt to explain the slightest difficulty, on the most indifferent subject of profane literature? To such a degree has the spirit of seduction spread itself at the present day! (Haydock)

I didn't look it up or read the context surrounding it, but it sounds like it's saying that the only way for anyone to truly understand the Scriptures is for the Lord to work in our hearts. Just proves that man cannot do it by himself, and that explains why a lot of people don't get it - they don't want to get it, so they shut God out. I pray I am never like that, though I fear I sometimes am.

2 Corinthians 3:14 & 15
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in CHRIST....But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their HEARTS!
1 Corinthians 2:12 - 14
Now we have received, NOT the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are FREELY given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
BUT the NATURAL man receiveth NOT the things of the Spirit of God; for they are Foolishness unto him; neither can he know them BECAUSE they are spiritually DISCERNED!

Hebews 4: 12
For the Word of God is Quick & Powerful, & sharper than ANY two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of SOUL & spirit, & of the joints & marrow, & is a DISCERNER of the THOUGHTS & Intents of the Heart!!!

Of course, Edge:

In fact, I'm reading my 11th different translation, and those I've read the N.T. twice. Too bad the Bible is the most unread best-seller. I did a survey of Christians once, and asked everyone who has read the Word from Genesis to Revelation to raise their hands--less than 10% responded.

The only part of the Bible you can't understand is Daniel 12, and it tells you you can't until the "end-of-the-days."

This talks about the Holy Spirit.

The disciples' comprehension involved seeing how God's plan, as outlined in the Scriptures, fits together.

Yes, I pray that daily
