I have always been very competitive with not only others but with myself as well. Lately, it has gotten extremely worse with me starting high school. I get good grades but to me its not enough. I need that 100% to feel satisfied not just a regular A. If someone does better than me on a test i become extremly jealous and almost consider them to be my "rival" from then on. Its kinda like if i am not the best then I am nothing. I know its extreme but I can't control this feeling. Can someone give me some guidance as to what to do so I don't feel this way anymore.

I have met and worked for guys like this who "had to be best." They would go into a state of depression if they failed in this goal. It is a psychological problem akin I think to "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" You might look up that phrase in quotes in Yahoo! web search for more descriptions of the condition. If you find that the condition fits your personality that is an indication that something is out of whack.

A trip to your GP physician might be in order to get a recommend for a therapist.

It is not a bad thing if you can stand the isolation (its mighty lonely at the top!) The fact that you recognize something wrong with your life is a good sign.

Good luck with your research, good mental health, peace and Love!

Wish I could, but i am much the same way, have to get the highest grade, always. Competition makes it harder, but it also encourages us to extend ourselves further, which is a good thing I think. Just keep it in perspective, there is more to you than your school grades to value.

Enjoy your achievements, take satisfaction in the achievements, not just the grade. Good luck, be safe.
