keep it in a savings account just in case but it could be DLA.
If this your first DITY move? You are elgible for Dislocation Allowance anytime you move and have family that moves with you. Its like.1000 or maybe a little more if i remember right. We moved from Augusta, GA onto Fort Gordon, GA (which is a 10 minute drive..lol) and they payed us almost 1500 dollars!!!!
So it could just be that you got payed more than what they had estimated. Just to be safe..put that money away because when it comes time to take it back if it was a mistake..they will take it all at once!!!

Take the extra money and put it away in a savings account. Do not think of it as your's. The military will figure out the mistake eventually and will take the amount they overpaid back...by deducting it from the active duty member's pay check, usually all at once. By having the money put aside, when that happens you won't be left short on a payday.

Did you file for DLA? Dislocation Allowance. If you are married then it starts at $1700 and goes up from there, if you are single, you will not get it for your first move from school to base, but you will get it after that and it starts at around $700 and goes up. Then there is the per diem of $109 per day, the mileage of $.20 a mile (I think they changed the rates recently), plus the weight of what you had, etc... So it could add up. Then there is TLE if you weren't in barracks, that is up to $180 a day for 10 days. But if you feel that you were overpaid, then wait until the end of the month's LES comes up so you can see exactly what it is for.

Stick it all into a savings account and hang onto it. If they made a mistake, they will catch it in 1-2 years and demand the money back.
Or stick it into the bank and go to the accounting office and ask them to check over the paperwork. The transportation office does not actually handle the money.

Keep it in your account for 2-3 weeks to give personell a chance to audit the payout, which happen every week and a half. At the end of the month if they have not charged it back to you you should be safe.

Yep it's possible that it's DLA or maybe it's advance travel pay (mileage, perdiem, dependant travel). These are just advances. They'll figure it all out when you inprocess through finance at the other end.

Don't worry, they always get it back. Don't spend the extra amount, unless you like garnishment.
