NO, As a Gunsmith, I can tell you that they are NOT interchangable......WWD is absolutely correct!

Look at the length of the locking lugs that hold the bolt closed. The .308 might be longer.

It is NOT safe to use a bolt from one rifle in another rifle, even if they are identical rifles chambered for the same cartridge; let alone chambered for 2 different cartridges, even if the rim size is the same.

no . headspace is the space between the bolt face and the chamber seat, if this is to tight the bolt won't close properly ,and to loose the flange of the shell case can blow out, do not atempt this interchange.

The theory is right, but the manufacturing tolerances may not be, and if your headspace is off a few thousandths, you're screwed.

dont try to shoot it until you get it checked with go & no go guages. even if it passes you've still got 1 gun with no bolt. whats the point?

If it feels right when the bolt closes I would pull the trigger. But after that first shot I would look at the case real close to make sure things were alright. Your logic is correct in my opinion.
