The movie 300 is based on real events. The Spartans actually did fight the Persians at Thermopolae. But the movie obviously took creative liberties. Even the director and writer of the movie/comic admitted it. They made the movie how they felt the Spartans would have told it. As for the rhino, I suppose it's possible, but doesn't seem very likely it happened that way.

It is possible i think.I doubt that the Persians actually did that because it would have been very noteworthy and i havnt heard of it.The biggest obstacle to having war rhino's is they aren't very smart and have terrible vision.
Hanabal did use war elephants during the war with the Romans. This tactic did work very well the elephant is very smart and can be trained.

I never saw "300", but too many people believe it as history.
I have seen college history tests where students cite the movie when answering questions about the Persian Empire; they did not get much credit for that answer.

I'm sure that was all Hollywood BS. Also, staying in character of the movie, the entire movie was being told AS a story, so you could say that even the storyteller would exaggerate what happened.

Would you really train an animal you could not control?
The Romans brought back exotic beasts, including Rhino from Africa to fight in the arena, with gladiators, most accounts say they ran wild and killed everything around them.
The beast is shortsighted and mean.
