What do I need to do to become a USMC Sniper? What steps should I take in terms of going from High School to a military academy. What kind of physical conditioning should i be doing to prepare physically for Training? What can I expect in terms of training time? I'd prefer a Spotter/Shooter 2 man squad over the general infantry sniper. Any help would be appreciated. I'd really like former or current military members to answer this question for me because i really need the utmost of accuracy. Please let me know if you'd be willing to give me more information!

-Thanks
Ben

Well the first thing you need to do is enlist in the Marine Corps.

Whether you can ever be a sniper, will depend on how well you can shoot.

There is not much reason, to go any further at this time, since you just don't know, if you have the innate ability to be a highly accurate rifle shot.

And prervious experience shooting, doesn't really make much difference.

A surprizing number of the best shots, never fired a weapon, before enlisting.

You could start running at least a mile or two every day for starters, and do some strength training to help get ready for USMC basic training... They will whip you into shape, but if you get in shape beforehand it probably won't hurt so much.

Talk to a marine recruiter about enlisting as a sniper... I'm pretty sure you have to go in as infantry and then reach a certain level of marksmanship to get into the sniper training program.

officers Plan .. squaddies perform. you may pass to Sniper college & be sniper qualified, gets a commission for it, etc yet you will by no skill be a sniper in a unit. Being an officer limits you to being the commander in each and every unit that belongs to you. the only officers that perform (to a pair diploma) are Spec Ops officers ( SEAL, SWCC, Rangers, eco-friendly Berets, Deltas, etc) & even in those elite contraptions the officer is often the pointman/rifleman & group chief so definite you may grow to be a sniper yet will you ever be one? NO

You don't want to go to a military academy since all USMC snipers are enlisted men, I believe.
Enlist after high school, be top notch in PT scores, fitness, and attitude, shoot well in boot, and work your *** off and you might get the opportunity to go to sniper school.

Last I checked, it wasn’t guaranteed like some of the jobs other branches ’ll promise you.

Also, what was with all the stupid answers above? "i don't know" and "peace prevails (or something)," how are some of those answers even remotely useful?

I admire that you are interested in doing this for the good of our country. We need more fine young men to get involved to help protect the freedom of democracy.

I would prefer that if a sniper could do his job, then less civilians potentially harmed.

It takes a good eye and steady hand. How often do you target practice shooting, how good you are?

I would be interested to know what the range is using a high power lens to hit your target to see how accurate your vision is. Sounds like fun. Best wishes.

The USMC, Sniper is an actual MOS. Army you qualify for being a marksman/sharpshooter and sniper, but your MOS doesn't change.
Sorry that's all I know about the USMC Sniper.

The Recruiter is the best person to talk to.
They would be glad to talk with you.
You could see video presentations, get brochures, etc.
Good luck.
