How long does the average man wait before he starts dating again after a breakup from a 4 year affair?

Average guy ... I don't rightly know.

Upwards of 3-6 months would be minimum I think.

I don't think there is a maximum - some guys are wrecked after that sort of thing.

Girls have this sort of odd thing where they say at least half the length of the duration of the relationship ... sort of as a mourning period or whatever, but this isn't true either. Some girls will have a long (I mean several years long > 10yrs) relationship (often marriage) and break up (divorce) and get on with life ... maybe have a transition guy ... then be dating again. THEY would argue that the relationship had been dead for many years.

It really all depends on the situation.

If you are ready now - go date someone now. But be self-aware. Understand that you are doing this not because you have a desperate need to cling to someone, but because you want to be out and having fun. Girls will smell the desperate and needy. Any girl who goes for your desperation and neediness might be co-dependent.

Be independent and strong. Be healed, before you go out looking for someone to share life with.

I would think there is no specific time frame. It varies per person. I've heard that whole "half the time you were with them" nonsense...and quite frankly I don't agree. I think YOU have to be ready for the idea of pursuing a new love interest. Granted I don't think you should go start another long term realationship right off. Instead, this might be a good time to think about why the previous relationship didn't work out and assess what it is you want this time around. It's usually good to start out just simply meeting new people and if you feel like you can handle it, ask them out on a date. The truth is, only you can determine when you are emotionally ready to start dating again. Best, AK

5 to 10 hours is a good amount of time to wait ;)

Seriously it is probably best to start off with casual dates with little expectation of an emotional or physical connection. How long will really vary from person to person and the situation. A dramatic break-up may take longer to be comfortable with dating than one where you both grow apart and leaves you ready to meet new people.

When the person feels ready! There is no set time before you can start dating again. Every1 heals and moves on a different speeds.

Well there is no hard and fast rule as to dating after a break up cause some break up give u emotional pain so u unwillingly participate in another relation to remove old memories but in your case you can start dating today.........no problem...............

it depends on the person but probably a while, because 4 years is a long time time to be with someone.

When ever it feels right. There is no certain time, just make sure that it feels right inside and that you are not dating the person just because you feel lonely. Make sure it is a person that you are really interested in and not just settling for.
