Christianity develops a closed mind. One has to recondition one self through meditation.

I am a Christian, and have been for my entire life. I go to Church every week.
But guess what? The Da Vinci Code is my favorite book. And I happen to LOVE the Golden Compass AND Harry Potter. Fiction that has different view points than my own does not offend me; on the contrary, I find it fascinating to read and see other points of view. Experiencing different things does not lessen my faith, but helps me to understand those around me better. I know not everyone thinks the same way as me, and I know not everyone believes the same way I do. So why should I be offended by another person expressing a different belief?

I'm a Christian, and I thought Harry Potter rocked. It's natural for kids to want to feel special, and what could make you feel more special than finding out you have magical powers? Plus Rowling is a gifted writer.
From what I'm hearing, more people are upset about The Golden Compass and its sequels than about the Harry Potter series. I think it has less to do with the content of the books than it does with the fact that the author is on the record as having written the series out of a desire to produce the atheist equivalent of The Chronicles of Narnia. That's a turnoff to a lot of Christian parents.

good question...one I've wondered about a lot lately with the latest "Golden Compass" uproar...I happen to be a person of faith, even though I choose not to attend church on a regular basis...I myself have no problem whatsoever with fiction...I love the Harry Potter Novels and I want to see The Golden Compass...I wish others felt the same...it IS possible to have both faith and logic in your life..in fact, I find either one to be of little use without the other.

ok one thing satan uses big titles to get people to start rethinking themselves and personally im going to tell u this. if u love a book alot read it all u want but always keep in mind what ur christian beliefs are and that the book and all that is in the book is nothing compared to god. i mean its great that they can do all kinds of magic and stuff but god made the unniverse and id like to see any type of fictional magic be more magestic than that. for one thing dude above that doesnt believe in hell, what u dont believe in can hurt u. just to say this if god isnt real and all that and u were right all along.... than we both die and nothing else happens. but if im right about god u will go to that damn place called hell and uve ever felt burned before think about this. you will burn and ur body will re heal itself and then you will burn again and it will not stop and there will be no ease whatsoever and it will never stop for the rest of eternity. so if u want to say that it will never happen and if it does youll never be able to go back and save urself.

Like fiction. Don't like when people take fiction as fact. Movies are all fiction...even majority of documentaries. These movies are good movies. Parrents need to teach children, not government or censors, what is real and what is not. Christians should not be offended, but should teach your children what is real and what is not. Television and movies are not a substitute for you.

Same reason African Americans disliked the fictional "Minstrel Shows" of an earlier era.
Bigotry in repulsive in fiction or non fiction. Hate is dumb.

God, through the Bible, has asked that anything to do with His arrangement MUST BE ACCURATE.
And that precludes fiction.
(2 PETER 1:2-3) May undeserved kindness and peace be increased to YOU by an accurate knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3Â forasmuch as his divine power has given us freely all the things that concern life and godly devotion, through the accurate knowledge of the one who called us through glory and virtue.
