I am making anise cookies and somehow I have seriously messed up the recipe. I think the problem was that I didn't beat the eggs enough in the beginning, but anyways the recipe told you to chill the dough and I put it in the fridge for about an hour and a half (this could also be a source of the problem). I took the dough out and it is supposed to be doughy and able to be rolled out and formed into shapes with a cookie cutter. However, the dough was gooey, EXTREMELY sticky, and would not hold any type of shape. Is there any way this recipe can be saved?! :(

the only problem with kneading flour into it is that I literally cannot even touch it...it's so sticky and goupy.

Add more flour; it won't hurt the recipe any. Just add about a teaspoon at a time while you're kneading it with your hands.

We can't really help you without more info. The amount of time you beat the eggs wouldn't totally change the consistency and 1 1/2 hrs. should be long enough to chill your dough. Did you use large eggs? If recipes don't specify, then assume large eggs are needed. Did you double check the quantities you used for all the ingredients?

I agree that you can just add some more flour and then make them like a drop cookie or even go so far as to add enough more flour and sugar to make the dough "rollable" after chilling again. If you have double checked all the ingredient quantities, you might want to check for other similar recipes and see if their quantities are roughly the same as your recipe. There could be a type involved.

Good luck.

maybe leave it in the fridge longer,,, see if it stiffens up. If it doesn't than an error was made by you or in the recipe. So you could try to scoop the dough onto sheetpans instead. Bake it and see if they taste good (afterall, thats what matters right? lol) If you try to add more flour, just don't mix it too much or you will end up with a very tough cookie...

Add a bit more flour. The cookies might not turn out exactly as they normally would, but you'll have something people won't be afraid to eat.

it sounds like you need more flour. Try to add small amounts of flour while kneading it. IT should become the consistency you're looking for

I would slowly knead in more flour until you can roll it out. You will probably need to chill it again before cutting it and baking it.
