Well, "God" is "old" ... Most of the ideas in religions are "old" as well, however many of them are still relevant today: for example, the golden rule, found in every religion, and the love and understanding found in the New Testament.
Believe what you will, and use your beliefs to strengthen your relationships with others. Religion is only dangerous for consumption if you try to shove it down other people's throats. If you are disrespectful enough to do that, then you WILL get sick to your stomach, because it isn't appreciated and most people will tell you so.
