Hearing people (including my own parents) using the words "kids" to refer to my sister and I (20 and 23) and my other friends is really starting to annoy me. It makes me think they think we're goats. We're not. The appropriate word to use is children which establishes our humanity. Why call your children something they're not?

I suppose it is better than "brats". Kids comes from the German imports to our language, as in "kindergarten" with considerable modification. At your age the appropriate use is probably your names. "Children" is a bit ponderous in this age when most of the kids (sorry) are spkg n slng n uzg nmbaz 2 xprs hrt.

At 20 or 23 I wouldn't want to be referred to as "children". That sounds worse to me. Them just saying "daughter" or "son" would be best. Also, at that age you shouldn't be around your parents so much that you hear them say that frequently to let it bother you anyway. Do you still live at home or what?
