useful? Why didn't he stop the terrorist on 9/11? Why didn't he stop Baby Grace's parents from abusing her and killing her? Why does he create ice storms that kill people?

Man's free will, I know... but what about innocent VICTIMS? Why isn't God protecting his children??

Why do I bother asking these questions?

Because there is no God. God is a man made story passed on throughout time, invented many years ago as a method to keep society in line. There was no police, jails, courts or any other modern peace keeper and the powers that be(or were) needed to instill fear in the masses to create order and civility.
The evidence of this is the many religions that popped up around the world in separate geographical locales. Asia- Shintoism, India - Buddhism, American Indians- polytheism, Middle East - Muslim, South America - Aztec Mayan cultural religions. All separate but based on the same principles, act a certain way or face the punishment from a higher power.

This world wasn't meant to be a Utopia. Maybe we will find the answer to those questions in the next life. If you don't believe in life after death, how do you explain the phonomenon of the Universe with all its mysteries? Science can't even begin to explain all the wonders of the Universe. Doesn't the concept of infinity ever startle you. You can take a counting number 1,2,3 and go forever!! Isn't the Universe the same? Science can find no end to it. And if there were an end, what would that look like? Just these questions should make one wonder what power caused the Universe to happen. There were greater minds than yours and mine that pondered these things, and found no answers, only faith in the power which created it all!

It is not God's Plan to intervene in the affairs of Man. That is what the Greek Gods did, and look what it got them. The Real, One, True God stepped back into the picture long enough only to set the Record straight, and then butted out again.

Now we are like God's new train set, two weeks after Christmas, he doesn't play with us anymore.

You're right. Why do you bother since it seems like your beliefs are already solidified.

God should not be confused with a genie. He does not exist to make life easier for us. He is the manifestation of absolute justice. By definition, "absolute" is beyond our understanding, so if we will accept God, it must be based on faith.

People are destined to die, so that should come as no surprise of itself. I am just as disheartened and confused as you when babies are killed or people are shot while shopping in a mall. I just can't explain that, but I do not see it as a contradiction of God's stated love for humanity either.

If you choose to accept God and submit to Him, I believe He will start a personal relationship with you and you'll begin on a path to enlightenment. It's an individual thing.

It's better to wonder in humility than to know in pride.

Sorry for the sermon. I get carried away sometimes.

Well...if God is up there, he is everywhere, always watching, never turning his back. All suffering he inflicts on humans isn't to punish us, but to make us learn and possibly grow from it. September 11, for example, shouldn't be seen as God's way of making America pay for being bad, but to make American citizens wake up and unite. Granted, that did not turn out right...but God cannot make us do things right, he can only put things in front of us and hope we see what is right.
It is human nature to ask such questions and feel bad about the way things are turning out...all one can do is make sure they always do what's right.

God doesn't interfere in human events directly all the time. Rather, he guides human beings. Since we have free will, as you rightly pointed out, we make our own decisions.

He's given us words of wisdom to live by, teachings to guide us, and everything else. But it is up to US not to sin and kill each other.

God doesn't create ice storms. Rather, they are an unfortunate side effect of the same weather system that gives us the rain we need, the wind we need, and so on. The weather just works that way when the temperature and conditions are right.

These are very good questions and it is very difficult to understand the various answers you will get depending on which religion provides the answers. Religious explanations may include the free will argument, some may argue that it was preordained, some may argue the those killed deserved it because they were non-believers or because they lived sinful lives or live in a sinful society. Some may argue that it does not really matter because those who died will be reincarnated and whether their next life is better or worse depends on how they lived this life.

These are the kinds of questions that people have struggled to answer about as long as people have believed in the concept of gods.

He will do something in the future. In the garden of Eden Satan challenged God's right to rule mankind, he pretty much told Adam and Eve that they could do it better. So right now Satan is the ruler of this earth. God is just letting us prove to ourselves that we can't rule ourselves. He has to the right to rule and really he is the only one that can solve mankind's problems. And he will. Oh yes and you bother asking because you are looking for the truth about this world and what's going on. And it's good that you have concerns about it.

My take on this is that God is love, so God can only do what love can do--no more, and no less. And God can only have the characteristics that love has--Love does not have form or gender, so neither does God.

Love cannot stop parents from abusing their child, because love is not present in such parents. If it were, they could not abuse.

Love cannot affect the physical world except insofar as people allow themselves to be influenced by love to act in loving ways. So God cannot cause or stop ice storms or other natural disasters, and God cannot stop criminal acts because the people who do such things won't or can't love.

God can only act where love is present.

There are and have been many answers to this question if not something exactly similar.

God is like a guiding light that we follow. He tells us that one day we will be in Heaven with him. Imagine you are walking down a dirt road and your father (God) is holding your hand right beside you. You trip and fall and scrape your knee. God helps you up and tells you it will be ok.

The point I'm trying to make is, it was not God's fault you tripped over the rock in the road, you should have held on tighter when you started feeling yourself fall. And yet even though you fell and scraped your knee, he will always be there to help you up and dry your tears.
