HEY! I'm no particular fan of President Bush.
But I do support OIF.
Not to do so would be selfish. I would be saying it's ok for Americans to have freedom... but nobody else.
Not to do so would be backward. It would be stepping back into isolationism. The world is too small to pretend we're the only country that exists, or that it still takes a year to circumnavigate the globe.
Not to do so would be disrespectful. It would be saying that I don't give a darn about the lives that have been lost over there. I believe that were we to quit fighting there and leave today, within a few months, if not weeks, there would be a new dictator from among the terrorists and we would be back where we were almost 20 years ago, and every life lost would have gone for nothing... flushed down the toilet.
Not to do so would be naive. Nobody with even a hint of historical knowledge can possibly believe the terrorists want peace. Nobody with even a hint of knowledge of current events can believe that either. In Vietnam, the only time the enemy wanted to talk peace was when he needed a break in the fighting so he could bring in fresh men, replenish supplies, replace equipment, and either dig in deeper to defend a position, or prepare for a new offensive. And if you think terrorists are willing to listen to reason, if you think there is any grounds for diplomacy to work, I remind you of the speech by the president or Iran. The only concession they will be satisfied with is our deaths.
To discontinue the fighting before (1) the Iraqi government is functioning, and (2) before the Iraqi army and police are sufficiently trained to protect themselves, would be incredibly foolish. The only thing in this world keeping the insurgents from taking over the country and establishing their own little version of a "Husseindom" is the US and the few allies we have. If we stopped fighting, if we pulled out today, the terrorism would continue. The first thing you would hear from the terrorists would be, "We won a military victory of the cowardly Americans. We drove the infidels from our land. You doubt? We are here. They are not." As a matter of fact, the "military victory" would not have been won; rather it would a gift from a blind, uninformed public opinion that prevented the military from doing its job. The second thing you would hear from the terrorists would be, "Do you remember what we were able to do to you while the Americans were here to protect you? Well, they're not here any more...."
Terrorists aren't interested in Iraq--except for the oil. They're not the least interested in the Iraqi people--they target them. They're not interested in Islam--if we believe what other Muslims say... that Islam is peaceful, that terrorism is forbidden by the Qur'an. The only thing they're interested in is power... and maybe rebuilding and occupying some of those palaces.
And, I support the war because I've been there and done that... a different battlefield perhaps... and a different time. But until you've studied tactics. Until you've faced down the enemy. Until you've done the deed, then all you have is thoughts. I don't care how many books you've read... or even written. I don't know how many troops you've talked to... or know. I don't care how many newspapers you read or how many news programs you watch. You do not know what you're talking about. Sadly, many think they do. They know more than the intelligence community. They know more than the military who are there. They may know less about the war than they do about soap operas, "reality" shows, and movie stars... but what little they think they know, they're convinced it is more than the military.
Please don't try to tell me we shouldn't be there. That's entirely skirting the issue. We ARE there. Pointing fingers, second-guessing, name-calling, philosophizing, and tantrums isn't going to change that.
To equate supporting OIF with anything political is absolutely moronic. That's like saying if you don't eat your vegetables you can't like football.
But, if that's your only argument...

There is no war in Iraq, so no one can support continuing your alleged war. I do, however, fully support declaring war on the Iraqi insurgency. Had we done that from the get-go, we'd be done by now. We're good at wars, not so much at unspecified military operations.
Oh, and I'm not a fan of President Bush.

Because the Iraqi people deserve a future
Because we are winning
Because what we are doing will address the causes of Islamic Fundamentalist Terrorism
Because Iraq has been the graveyard for Al Queda's trained operatives.

Sounds like you are getting slammed on this question. Our soldiers are there because they believe in what they do, are proud of what they do and are willing to give there lives for what they do, as well as for America. Try to remember one of these days that America is one of the good guys. It's a free country, and you are allowed to have your opinion, and so am I.

Hey, I'm wondering why the people who keep asking this question can't do a simple search to see what the answers given to the same question the last 50 times were.

Just remind yourself that we were grateful to the french back in the 1700's that they didn't think like the liberals in America today.

There is reason, they have their government and police. We are just there to to babysit them.
We are losing lives in a war that was meant to create a Legacy for Bush nothing more, and its blown up in face instead.
Iraqi people will continue to hate the western ways and Sunni and Shiite will continue to fight for hundreds fo years more over what Mohammad said.
Go ahead give me thumbs down if you want.
