I'm 25, she's 20. I make about $600 a week, but I support us both on that salary. I'm thinking of spending about $400-800, but I feel like it's not enough. She insists that she doesn't want me to spend very much, because she's not that materialistic and our love alone is reason enough for her to say "yes".

Would it be out of the question to buy a cheaper engagement ring and then spend the big bucks on the wedding ring? I know it's usually done the other way around...

Wedding ring will be there forever.. I'd say make sure the wedding ring is beautiful,... then buy an engagement ring that you can afford.
Then again I don't know what kind of wedding ring you want. I'm Jewish and we're not supposed to have fancy wedding rings because it signifies that the woman just wants money. :p
so we're supposed to have really plain ones

About 2 mos. salary. If you choose to splurge more on the wedding band. that's fine if she agrees.
