my little brother who has downs syndrome is eating the fish pills with omega-3, i guess its good for them. Ive read that its actually supposed to make your cholestorol lower, thus you lose weight, or get "balanced" But after he started taking the pills, both my mom and I noticed him getting a little fat, like drooping down over his underwear like a beer belly haah. but it might be cuz hes eating other pills at the same time, not sure.....

definetly not. omega 3 fatty acids are no different than any other type of fat in terms of calories they are 9 cals per gram. omega fatty acids aren't causing your brothers weight gain.

you can gain weight depending on how many calories you consume... when you eat fat, it may want to cling on and store it self away in your body, as opposed to a carbohydrate that likes to be used up right away, but either way your body needs so many "calories" or energy units per day... so if your energy usage is larger than calorie consumption you will lose weight or vice-versa. nothing bad will happen to you if you oversume omega 3's. some people who take the actual supplements of fish or flax to obtain omega threes can experience som diarrhea until their body adjusts, but omega three is great for mental development particularly in fetus's - its good for skin hair and nails there are also omega 6 atleast one other omega.... but probably more there is saturated fat polyunsaturated fat monounsaturated fat those three are all natural fats and have different molecular "fat chain lengths" so your body processes them differently, and obviously saturated fat can harden your arterteries. there is also trans-fat which occurs naturally in some places in very small amounts, or unnaturally through the process of hydrogenation. it is currently believed that this particular type of fat is the worst one for you, because the molecular structure is not natural, so your body just stores the fat rather than passing it or using it as energy.

No - they do not make you obese. Omega 3 is one of the "good" fats to have in your diet.

Go to the library and really learn, please. This answer deserves better. We should all learn about fats. There are so many kinds. Faty acids are so important! Make sure that since his are fish-source that they are mercury-free.
