100% YES!!! Research proves (in double blindstudies) that regular cardiovascular exercise (30-60 minutes 3-5 times a week) is more effective than medication!!!

Even if you are on meds, the exercise only improves things.

The way it works chemically is that it increases the dopamine and seratonin in the brain..MAKES you feel good!

Hope this helps!

Yes, it can be part of the therapy for a mental illness. But please understand that mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of and also it can be treated by a professional. Since you didn't describe the symptoms I would suggest that you talk to a trusted individual such as a school councilor or better yet a doctor. All mental illnesses can be managed meaning that they aren't cured but are controlled by medication and or therapy. Since you have all ready identified the problem you are more than half way there. Please don't be afraid or embarrest especially if you are asked to see a a Doctor of Psychiatry. They are Doctors that study the mind and are experts at making you feel better. They are not therapists (psychologists). It is just like you would go to a plastic surgeon to change your nose, chin or face rather than a family doctor. Look up the syptoms you have at WebMD.com and se if you have a need. I wish I had been able to get treatment when I was 19. I finally found out that I had a chemical inbalance (mental illness) when I was 52!! You are on track for a perfect life if you are proactive.

Yes! When you exercise serotonin gets released to your brain, and serotonin is one of the chemicals involved in mental illness (thought to be an imbalance of brain chemicals). Another benefit to exercise is that it helps you sleep better.

Absolutely. Exercise is better than any anti-depressant medication I have ever taken (one of which made me suicidal). I actually need exercise for my mental health just as need air, water and food for my physical health.
