Does anyone have any ideas? I'm a baby Christian, and I'm recovering from SI, trying very hard, and I would like to know if anyone knows of any scripture that could help or if there's any that addresses this kind of thing.

Please, no rude answers. I'm asking for honest help.

AM Fields: I know. I'm on Lexapro prescribed by my GP, but I'm on the prowl for a therapist. This is mostly just for personal help when I'm at home and struggling with it.

Yes - read, re-read, and the re-read again...mediate on, eat, chew on, and absorb Romans, chapter 7 and 8.
Memorize chapter 8.

I also completely agree with the other answerer who went to Pslam 139. But not only verse 14, but the whole Psalm.

As a self-proclaimed "baby" Christian, the earlier you grasp a hold of the truths in Romans, especially chapters 7 and 8, the better. If only all Christians fully grasped the treasures that lie within those chapters.

Furthermore, it is essential that you grasp some fundamentals of the Christian faith, namely:
Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, evident by works (namely, love).

That is, the basis for salvation is grace. (the "why" of salvation)
The means of salvation is faith. (the "how" of salvation)
The works; the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5) are the evidence of salvation...that come "naturally" by the power of the Holy Spirit which works within you.

Salvation (for a Christian) involves:
The past (Justification), in which righteousness is imputed to the sinner, declaring them a saint in standing before God.

The present (Sanctification), is the ongoing process until death in which righteousness is imparted to you, by the power of the Holy Spirit, actually making you holy in state.

The future (Glorification), is the final end of salvation...when Christ comes again...or you die to go be with Him. This is impeccable righteousness, which is not possible this side of heaven because of the strength of sin that remains within us. (Romans 7).

-
So, you are now Justified by God, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
And you have entered the "strange" process of Sanctification, which is also by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

You will battle sin the rest of your life, as all Christians do - the flesh waging war with the Holy Spirit that is within you.

And the KEY is grace.

Just as grace was the "key" to justification - a free gift, so to is your sanctification...by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Many people pointed you to 1 Corinthians 6:19...which, seemingly "fitting" your case, does not HELP you gain victory over your battle.

Victory over this battle will NOT come by the law, no more than your righteousness before God be obtained by obedience to the law! It is the law that condemns you. But you are no longer under the law. Reckon yourself dead to the law and alive to Christ. And, as Romans 8 starts, there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

The attempts we make to become more holy are futile. This is the great error of the Galatians. See Galatians, chapter 3...in which Paul calls them "foolish" and "bewitched"! Why? Because they BEGAN in the Spirit...but then attempted to attain their goal in the flesh. That is, they began by grace through faith in justification, and now they were trying by the flesh to sanctify themselves before God.

Salvation is from grace unto grace.

Practical application (and backwards from the world's way):
To overcome: you "give up".
That is, you recognize your helplessness before God and the power of the sinful flesh...and cry out to God for mercy, for help, for aid. And you throw yourself to the ground, on your knees, at His throne of grace...and make your plea via the Gospel. You preach the Gospel to yourself. This is the Christian life...filled with the Holy Spirit...continued repentance and renewal by God; all by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

-
Some battles, God is so gracious as to give us victory instantaneously...while others may take much time...much prayer...and much struggle.

You must understand this...God loves others so much...that He is willing that you should struggle...as you have in the past...and as you are now. He didn't immediately take you home, but has you remain on earth...for the good of others. See Philippians 1:19-26

And your struggles...will lead to your sanctification and perfection, even as He conforms you into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.

See James 1:2-7 (and pray for wisdom regarding all these things!)

And finally, read 2 Corinthians 1:3-7!

Understand that God is making you a very powerful voice to help others. He will comfort you...and with the comfort you receive from Him, later you will be able to minister in an amazing way to others who struggle in like fashion.

Know this:
God WILL complete the work He began in you.
He is faithful, and He will do it.
Trust in Him.

-

Grace and peace in Christ be with you in abundance!

Even 2 corinithians 11:14 says he can transform himself into an angel of light. So limited to a book, no not necessarily so.. Because God goes beyond a book, he is a spirit, a creator. And a snake can only hide his real self for but so long.. Because whats in the dark will ALWAYS come to the light. And he gives us wisdom to discern the two: both good and evil. Satan preys on everyone... Just pray for the ones who don't even know.

Since other writers quoted some great scipture, I won't.

But I do want to refer you to a couple of really great songs that might help you - especially if you listen when you feel the urge to SI. When dealing with a disorder such as SI - it is important to get with a therapist and learn to recognize the triggers that occur and feed the urge. I'm glad you're looking into that.

The Real Me by Natalie Grant (especially perfect for this)
Hide by Joy Williams (might help you with some underlying issues)

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

I also found some sites on the internet by searching on self injury and scripture:

http://www.self-injury.org/scriptureandsi.html

http://www.self-injury.org/index.html

http://www.battlecry.com/pages/self_injury_stories.php
(see the link to scriptures)

Hope these sites help, and there are others. I'll be praying for you. Even though you are Christian, do not be afraid to also receive help from doctors / counselors. God loves you. Have peace, have joy.

Jesus felt that you where worthy enough to die on the cross for. if you would have been the only person who every lived He still would have suffered the cross to show His love for you . considering God loves you so much why would you still do these things to yourself ? do you not understand just how important you are ? it truly pains me to hear that one of my Christian sisters causes herself pain . my heart and prayers go out to and for you , and i beg of you that you don't let satan talk you into doing this to yourself again. God's Word tell us to be transformed into a new creature in Christ and to be conformed to this world and it's ways . leave the past behind and be transformed . Help is just a prayer away , if you will just have faith and ask for it . Jesus died so that we could be set free from things like this . reach out and take hold of that freedom . hope this helps , and may God Bless you with the strength you need to overcome this .

My heart goes out to you and my prayers, stand firm, you know exactly what is happening, you are a new babe in Christ, and you know who comes trying to take away your joy and your peace. Your power is in you through the Holy Spirit, stand firm, hand on the plow, and do not look back. I have had struggles also, and I just kept my Faith, and things get easier everyday, I promise it will, with the Lord. :) You are a beautiful child of God, inside and out.

Well yachadoo took my verses! I was going to suggest Romans 5-8.

Other than that, may I also suggest praise and worship music. I struggled with the same basic issue, I used to burn myself, small burns, but still... One thing I found helpful was both prayer and worship whenever the "urge" or whatever you want to call it came over me. I would pray, and worship, and keep worshiping (playing praise and worship cassettes) until I was at peace and not having that desire anymore. Reading ANY Psalm is also helpful. Also, music with scripture in it is most helpful. One of my favorite songs goes like this, "There is therefore, now no condemnation, for those who are in Christ Jesus-There is therefore, now now condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus- for the law of the Spirit, of life in Christ Jesus, has set me free, from the law of sin and death, there is therefore, now no condemnation, for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Job 5:18 - For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.

I am fighting the same thing. I'll be praying for you.

I am honestly not very strong with scriptures, but if there is something under your skin that needs to be stabbed to death or anything [sorry, I am not very knowledgeable on self-injury either -_-;), just know that God is powerful enough to free you from any bondage past and present, outward and inward.

But Paul shouted loudly to him, saying, "Do yourself no injury: we are all here Acts:16:28
At the begining of any Christian journey you will discover that God is love, this love is not the relationship love of hollywood or even marriage. It is far greater and will become the greatest love of your life.
Of course I am talking of my own experience, yours will be totally different but I pray will be filled with the love of Jesus Christ.

There's encouragement that your body is the temple of the Holy
Spirit, and therefore as you do good to your body, you do good to God.

Also, ...if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new. (rough paraphrase off the top of my head 2 Corinthians 5:17 I think...)
The point being, you are not tied to the old things, and are freed by the power of Christ!
