Have confidence.
Fact is, cops have discretion to write a ticket or not. If what you say is true, the cop should not have written you a ticket. But cops make the wrong call sometimes. In driver's ed, they teach you that if you cannot stop safely on yellow, you should go through.
There are various reasons why you may not be able to stop safely. Someone may be speeding behind you and expecting you to go through the light, and when you see him in your mirror, you can tell he'll hit you from behind, and push you into the intersection anyway, so you decided--correctly--to go through the yellow light.
Another reason could be simply that the timing was such that because of where you were when the light turned yellow, it was safer to go through.
Another reason could even be your fault--you were driving too fast, and it was safer to go through--but in that case, you should get a speeding ticket, not a running the light (yellow or red) ticket.
Read your driver's ed book again, and take your test with confidence. Even if it was your fault, it is not the end of the world. People make mistakes. We try not to make a lot of them, but you don't get sent to Siberia for one mistake. Or even two. However, you have to try especially hard not to make mistakes driving when you first get your permit or your license, because people in charge are often harder on those who are just beginning. So, just try a little harder, and you'll do fine.
Good luck.

I'm not clear on MI traffic law. In OH, the law requires your vehicle to completely clear the intersection before the light turns red. If ANY part of your vehicle is still in the intersection when the light turns red, you have legally crossed through a red light. If the light was already yellow when you entered, it was probably red before you cleared the intersection. It sounds like MI has a similar law. If you actually were to close to stop when the light turned yellow, that should be a valid defense if you decide to fight the ticket. On the other hand, maybe you did not have room to stop because you were driving too fast.

i've got heard approximately them sending tickets by potential of way of mail, yet no longer regularly and not from all people I knew. My dad have been given a cost tag for "working a purple mild" that exchange right into a yellow turning purple. He even had a witness with him that mentioned the mild exchange into nonetheless yellow whilst he went under the mild. It relies upon on the cop. additionally, in case you're taking them to court docket on it and your cop does not take place, they are going to a million/2 the value ticket or drop it thoroughly. some law enforcement officers won't hassle to take place for one among those fickle value ticket. I "run purple lights fixtures" plenty in my city now and back in user-friendly terms because of the fact you need to come to a decision what's safer.... slamming on your brakes and in all probability hurting your self or your automobile, or basically staying the value you're at. law enforcement officers relatively might desire to be life like, yet that is basically no longer how stuff works now and back. All in all, i think of it relies upon on the cop that is around. And if there have been no cameras, then there's no way they are able to deliver a cost tag by potential of way of mail.

This is good luck for you. You have learned (1) not to run red lights, (2) never argue with a police officer, and (3) when you take your drivers test you WILL stop at red lights.
To "stop" means your wheels stop turning. "Stop" does not mean slow down to 25mph.

Remember your drivers ed. Yellow means caution, slow and prepare to stop; not speed up and try to beat the light.
