ignoramus_the_great, Yes as a matter of fact John did have a requirement. Here it is:
Matthew 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Matthew 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

Peter also brings this out in Acts 2:38 "Repent and be baptized"

Baptizm is an entrance into the church for membership.I know of no organization in the world that does not apply some kind of requirement for membership.

I think that the churches that baptize people when they reach the "age of reason" should. And I think that Catholicism should have requirements for Confirmation. And that Judaism should have requirements for BarMitzva.
The one thing that none of these religions do is give the person any other option. You are raised in the faith and when it comes time, you "choose" to become a full fledged member of the faith. But in reality, having a choice in the matter means (imho anyway) that you actually have options. When you are in your early teens, you don't have the capacity to make that kind of commitment.
And I think that the churches that let people just decide that day to be baptized should have follow-up requirements because many people do it at the urging of the person who took them to the service rather than out of a real religious commitment.

Does Jesus have certain requirements that pertain to baptism? Mark 16:16 Did the apostle Peter have any requirements prior to baptism? Acts 2:38 Did the apostle Paul have any requirements prior to baptism? Rom. 10:9,10 If these had requirements, being the chief cornerstone and foundations of the church, then I would think it would be fair to assume that there are requirements prior to baptism.

I think brother Don , that baptism has become a very legal thing in the church now.
With baptism comes the "church membership"
With it also comes the ability to take the communion.
YOu are also a " tithing "member
Some go to " convert's classes" in order to be drilled in the dogma of a certain denomination and the responsibility of becoming a member of this particular church.
The life of the particular potential member has to compliment the church. If this one's life is questionable to those who are leading this church then their baptism could even be delayed until they are more suitable to become members.

I grew up in a denomination and this was the various considerations before baptizing a believer.

How scriptural it is .. I do not know.

Personally I think that what is necessary before a person is being baptized is for them to have a clear understanding of what baptism means.
That is not so difficult and impossible.
I have been to gospel meetings where people were saved and baptised the same day.
If we have the opportunity to be baptized then we should take it. Believing and being baptized is ONE step taking TWO FEET.

I always remember Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch.
After preaching the gospel to this one who was reading out of the book of Isaiah yet not understanding Who he was reading about...Believed when Philip opened up the word to him regarding the Lord Jesus.
What happened right afterwards
Acts 8: 35-39

And PHilip opened his mouth and beginning from this Scripture he announced Jesus as the Gospel to him

And as they were going along the road, they came upon some water and the eunuch said, Look, water. What prevents me from being baptized?

And Philip said, If you believe from all your heart you will be saved. And he answered and said " I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. ( what a sinners' prayer eh brother Don!)

And he ordered the chariot to stand still and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch and he baptized him

And when they came out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught philip away and the eunuch did not see him anymore for he went on his way Rejoicing!"

WOW WOW WOW!

THIS... is the simplicity of believing and being baptized!

May we remain simple. As the believers in Acts were. They were very simple in heart and it was here that the real Oneness was.

Today brother baptism has become such an issue. May theLord bring us way back to the word and what we see HERE as our pattern.
Once this person is genuinely saved by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.. then we encourage them to be bapsized. When we wait too long to cross the red sea.. the hold of " egypt" is strong. May more be encouraged to cross over and be placed fully into the Body of Christ. We are baptized into ONE BODY!
Transferred out of the Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of the Son of God's love.

These are what are necessary to know...nothing else manmade is needed.

Good Question brother

It varies from church to church, but there should be some requirements. If a person is openly immoral and shows no sign of remorse, how could they claim to be a follower of Christ? Someone like that should not be baptised.

At the very least the person should make a public profession of faith and should be well enough known to the church for them to have a certain level of confidence that they are living a Christian life.

Of course, many argue that baptism symbolizes God's grace to us, not our profession of faith, and I agree with that. The point is that a sign welcoming someone as a fellow believer is incongruous with someone who makes no profession by word and deed to be a believer.

Before (Baptizing) there was a need--

After Jesus there is no-need for (Baptizing)

Our Lord Jesus said Quote" All sin if for giving, In another way--

Jesus ROSE UP IN THE SPIRIT for we were baptize in the Spirit, Remeber He said IT"S FINISHED, that was the end of dipped in the water, Jesus sacrificed and gave his LIFE for us, sinfull people in this World, for we are born in sin, Rebuke the world as the world will rebuke you, because you are mines.
I am not from here neither are you, turn against sin and sin no-more, the price had been paid, in which there could have been no higher sacrifice made than Jesus giving his life because out of Love that he has for us, and the almighty word of our Father God in Heaven which we are Living and Breathing a borrowed short time.

The Church is the Temple of God, in which the Word of God Allmighty Lives, we should be an example of that Church, mans church the 4--corner building on this planet is nothing more work of carpenters, soon to burn, The Chucrh Of Father God is the work of Love destined to return to the Father in Heaven. They want you to beleave you need water Batism, this is not true; If they are John the Batist sure he can dip me in the water, then that would make time reverse it self,

Don't be fooled by these so-called ministers tell them to tellyou the truth.

Supposedly they are trying to save everyone....so having special requirements kind of messes that up. Actually some faiths to pre-qualify, even in small ways. Others figure if John the Baptist felt it was good for everyone who came, then why should they interfere with that connection between you and God?
