Elective surgery is NON-EMERGENT surgery. Most surgery that we do is elective. You can "elect" whether or not to have it done, and when to have it done. MOST elective surgery IS medically necessary.

We do elective C-sections, hernias, gall bladders, lots of gyn procedures, urologic procedures, vascular procedures... the list goes on.

It is surgery that, if delayed, will not cause a loss of life, limb or function.

Gastric bypass surgery is an elective procedure that makes the stomach smaller and re-routes the intestines to limit absorption of nutrients. It is used for weight loss for morbidly obese patients.

Lasik is refractive eye surgery. It reshapes the cornea so that you no longer need glasses.

Hope that helps.

The term is usually "elective surgery". That is any surgical procedure that is not medically necessary for your health. So, much plastic surgery is elective since it is being done for reasons other than medical necessity.

Gastric bypass surgery is a procedure done to limit the size of your stomach so that you can't consume as many calories as before. It is occasionally done in severely overweight people.

Lasik surgery is done to correct vision so a person might not need to wear glasses.
