Yes, it is true-NOT an Urban legend.Bisphenol A or BPA is the chemical used in the manufacture of polycarbonate plastic of baby bottles, microwave cookware, drinking bottles(containers and prepackaged) and other consumer goods. In previous studies, health experts and scientists have discovered that chemicals in the environment mimic estrogens and may be a contributing factor to female and male reproductive diseases cancer, especially breast and prostate cancer. BPA ranks among the world's most widely used industrial chemicals.Every chemical containing the benzene ring(review your basic chemistry course), including the above, have been found to be mutagenic (agent which is capable of causing cellular mutations) and carcinogenic. These chemicals leach into our foods and liquids for consumption, especially when heated(microwaved, oven cooked, or boiled).Visit naturescorner.com,my website.

Supposedly if you reuse the bottle repeatedly you can end up eroding the coating on the bottle therefore drinking the chemicals contained within, but i've been doing it for years and I feel fine.
