I asked earlier if tattoos were tacky, reason for this is a male freind of mine recently got his name tattooed on his arm. Do you think this is a silly thing to do.

Well it is his body so therefore his decision. But people wear Necklaces and Earrings with their own name on them so look at it this way at least it was his own name and not some girls name that he would end up breaking up with anyway.

Of course some tatts are tacky and your friend with his own name tattooed is a bit tacky but there are alot of tatts which are beautiful,or a tribute to a lost friend or relative,or are meaningful to a person and i think a tattoo is a personal thing and unique to each person unless of course they are just getting one to look cool!!!!!!

Not really. Each to their own. I have 'LENNON' tattooed on my hand....I suppose you might think think that that is a daft idea also...but it means alot to me, and that is all that matters.
Tattoos are personal, as are friendships, and I dare say your 'friend' would be quite upset to know that you are discussing his personal choices in this way. I'm sure he loves his tattoo, and, for his sake, you should either try to appreciate it, or simply ignore it.

who are you to think that you should come into a tattoo forum and attack tattoos and people who have them?
and do you think they are tacky or silly because i don't think the two are the same thing.
regardless of what we think about the tattoo that your friend got... it's HIS body and HIS tattoo and you don't have to live with it. every day thousands of people get tattooed and their friends don't go around insulting every person who has tattoos. what we think about the tattoo that your friend got is pointless because it's done.
try not being so judgemental.

His own name?! That is tacky but then again I think all tattoos and piercings (other than ears) are tacky!!

I have 5 none of which have my name, but 1 has my kids names. Maybe he has a problem remembering how to spell his name.

Well I love my tats.
My Hubby wants to get his last name tattooed across the top of his back.. thats his choice i guess whatever.

No, I don't think it's silly. People can do whatever they want to do. If they want to tattoo anything they want on them let them, it's not for you or I to judge.

It`s a matter of personal choice, as is smoking or drinking. Personally I wouldn`t have one.My skin is as pure as the day I was born, theres more of it and a lot more wrinkly.

Bet you cant beat this my sister is 31 so she isnt young and silly she had been going out with her fella for 3mths!!! and had a tattoo on her boob saying 'The property of dave' dave being his name. i was gobsmacked and he had 'The property of Joanne' on his lower back it isnt in no fancy writing its like i have just gone over with a biro and wrote it on with in capitals.
