I wouldn't get either one, myself. They are both too yappy.

I've actually had both, but the relationship with the Maltese just didn't work out. So about a year later, I got a Yorkie.

He was so easy to train. He learned how to sit, stay, down, and shake in only a matter of weeks. He was easy to house train as well. I tried the crate training and it worked wonders!! Capone (my Yorkie) was housebroken in about 2 months, and he's only 6 months old!! Like most Yorkies tend to be, he's also headstrong and can be stubborn at sometimes.

The one thing I've noticed since having him is that he does not bark unless someone is at the door. Even then, he barks twice and that's it. He is not yappy at all!! How lucky am I that he isn't!! Right now he's curled in a little ball right beside me sleeping. It's so cute!!

He's also in the process of going thru the changing of his coat. He's three colors right now: black, tan, and the silver steel color on his head.

As you can tell, I'm a little biased on my choice. Just make sure when you get a dog, that it can be one that will adjust to your lifestyle and one you can devote your time and attention to. Good luck!

Sorry to this as I am a YORKIE lover but go for the Maltese as Yorkies can be VERY head strong and take some training if the mutt don`t like a certain thing you want it to do there is NO way it will do it,they really try to master you.
Saying that I STILL LOVE EM.

Well as for me I'm a Yorkie Lover! I wouldn't get a Maltese at all. Too white for me. My Yorkies are very smart and obedient. They know how to lay, sit, etc. My tiny male goes everywhere with me and isn't yappy at all. He stays in his purse when we go to the mall out to eat and so on. They have personalities like small children very nosey and curious. I just love them! I also have a pug and a chihuahua and if I would have gotten my Yorkies first I would have never gotten either. This would be a strictly Yorkie home! They don't shed either. I know maltese don't as well but I just don't like white to dirty seems like you would have to bathe them daily to make sure they look spotless. I give mine a bath every 3 days in a detergent free shampoo so it would be safe to use daily as well.

I would suggest a Morkie! It's a blend between a Maltese and Yorkie :) I have one and she's adorable, very well-behaved and loving, full of energy.

But if you are really deciding between the two, I would choose a Yorkie. I've had them over the years, and my sister has one as well. They are very loyal dogs, smart, and loving as well. My only problem with a Maltese is that they tend to get yippy, their hair mats easily as well.

Hope this helps-- good luck :)

maltese for sure! dont listen to Kate M just b/c its pure breed doesnt mean it goes to the bathroom in ur house! they just did a crappy training job!
anyways look into each breed, go to the library and internet and do research see which one fits into your lifestyle more.
Maltese train easier and are so loveable!
but whatever u get u r sure to love!!!
good luck & best wishes
