Absolutely not. The BluRay players have composite (yellow) and s-video (4-pin), which are common connectors on regular TVs.

The movies will not look as spectacular on a SDTV as an HDTV. HDTV has 2.5 times more resolution. I would not suggest purchasing a BluRay player, if you only have a SDTV. It defeats the purpose and it would look the same as watching a movie from a standard DVD player.

well blu-ray mvies are hd so their no pt in watching them with out a hd tv it might look better but probally not notice able unless you have hd and you cant play blu-rays unless you have a blu-ray player and their about $600+ or a ps3 has blu-ray preintalled and it plays games lol

Not much point in doing so. A progressive scan DVD player already maxes out the traditional TV resolution.
