I would like to know, from those who have first hand knowledge, which Caribbean Islands are the best to visit for two college girls that want to avoid the normal spring break vacation sites (Mexico). We are looking for activities like snorkeling, horseback riding, water skiing, etc. Also, we want a safe island and we don't want to spend a fortune.

If you have any recommendations for hotels that would be great as well. I need to know what islands to start looking into because I don't know anything about any of them. Language barriers are not a concern.

Hawaii is out because the other person has already lived in Hawaii and does not want to spend Spring Break. We already ruled out Aruba, but I am trying to look into the Virgin Islands...

i think you world probably like the bahamas ... there is a big huge hotel there that has a big one of the worlds hugest water parks, Atlantis, I think it is called. Lots of tourists . i think there is a best western across the street you can stay at that has exchange priveleages. you are allowed to use the facilities at Atlantis and their beach but stay in your Best Western (or whateer that name is) across the street. cruise ship passengers usuallly get day rooms there and then go across to use the facilities/beach of the Atlantis. alternativly, grand cayman islands . stay on 7 mile beach. you will meet better class of people your age that what you will find in the virgin islands. i am not aware of horse back riding on any other island than st lucia i think ? st lucia is really a lot of honeymooners ? if you go to virgin islands ... megans beach and coki beach are best for snorkeling. i would probably stay at the newer holiday in i think ... marriott hotel or at saphire beach condominium rentals. in any of the carribean , stick together with your friend , don't get seperated . stay where other tourists are hanging out. don't get mixed up with local guys. watch your drinks / cash/credit cards if you go out for cocktails in both ciities . islands have pretty pricey lodging. maybe st. kitts as it was pretty . i met a nice young american lady that was vetrinarian doctor student traveling back to the states on my airplane seat mate. i think this would be a safe island . again in any of the carib ... do be careful . lots of crime happens on spring break and these locals can prey on tourists . don't be afraid of the world .. but do be smart. don't take chances.

You forgot St. Maarten:) This is a great resort it is located nearby the capital which is also the shopping mecca of the leeward islands. The hottest club on the island; Q Club. And about the beach Maho Beach is it beautiful. But a must see is Orient Beach. But let me warn you although the sea might seem calm it is a part of Mother Nature. There are strong undercurrents that you should be aware of at all time, fighting against them sometimes ends deadly. The famous Sunset beach Bar which is located believe it or not at the end of our International Airport is it truly and experience to be face in face with a larger than life jet. You can site there enjoy a drink watch the sunset and enjoy the experience of watching the planes land and take off. There is so much to do and see here on this island, that to start naming places would take all nite so here are some sites you can visit. I only wish I could show every visitor to my island the true beauty of it. Not just the tourist route which hardly involves true Caribbean Lifestyle, meaning what we as locals do, where and what we eat and where we go for entertainment.

Try Belize but its a jungle.Puerto Rico is really pretty and very Americaized. I have been to St. Thomas and St. Martin a couple of times and both were very pretty, and seems relatively safe. My favorite would be the Cayman Islands, -it is beautiful, but expensive. The Westin there is very nice as well as right on the beach. Good Luck!

It's not an island, but maybe Belize? Or Roatan, Honduras? Those would both be out-of-the-way of Spring breakers and relatively inexpensive. Virgin Islands will be expensive.

I assume you are aware that many hotels and resorts will not rent to "spring breakers", or people under 21.... Be sure and check on that.

Definitely do not go to Aruba. Maybe try the Bahamas or the Virgin Islands...more tourist friendly.
