Even if you fall in love with someone else, a memorial tattoo like that one can simply stand for the loss of someone close to you, not necessarily a boyfriend. Just to keep future boyfriends happy, you may just want to say it's a memorial tattoo of a very dear friend.

i would go for it!!!at the risk of sounding cheezy everyone who enters our lives affect our lives in one way or another there is always gonna be something there wether it's bad memories that you will learn from or good momories that you will cherish for a life time you should never forget the people....in this case your life was affected greatly someone u loved was taken away from u suddenly..u never know what might have been and getting a tattoo will give u the feeling that this person will always be with u
when it comes to explaining the tattoo to friends family and further boyfriends i wouldn't worry if they have any heart at all they'll understand

I'm sorry for your loss. Only you will know in yourself your ready for this tattoo. If it was me in this situation i would wait till i was stronger within myself and had dealt with what had happened. If you haven't started to come to terms with whats happened everytime you see the tattoo it will make you more sad and depressed.
If you wait till you start to feel better and get the tattoo whenever you look at it, it will remind you of all the good times you had instead of getting it too soon and making you more sad.

I'm sorry to hear about your boyfriend, but in time you will move on and find some body else, I don't think they will want a reminder of him ever time they look at your back, why not get a plaque made to put somewhere he liked to be to remember him by

I think I'd wat a year or two. Do you want to have to explain that tat to a boyfriend or husband 5, 10, or 20 years down the line? You miss your BF now, but will you in 15 years? Probably not. You don't know what you'll be doing then. I'd wait. If you guys were married, that'd be one thing, But for just a BF? nah.....

my sister's finance' just passed away last day of sept. and the day of his funeral we went and she got a tattoo on her food. The tattoo is of a floral arrangement with his name on the bottom of the flowers. It's on her foot. She was with him for 3 yrs and they had a 2 yr old daughter together. I don't think that it's too soon for you... and if you want it.. then get it. It's your body ... no one really approved of her getting his name... but- she did it. and doesn't regret it.-

your mother probably said to wait because when time goes by, your love will not.. like die away but will like.. not as strong but still there and if you get it now, you might not want it there anymore by the time you've had __ boyfriends
besides you can always keep your memories of your boyfriend in your heart, why on your back?
sorry about his death

i say get the tat
but my advice even if he were living would be make it a symbolic tat rather than a name
never put someones name on you esp your own
i have 5 tats and in the past when i considered getting a name , i decided it made more sense to tat something that reminds me of the person/event and is symbolic to the person/event
