Sounds like a mouth ulcer. Does it have a white center? For pain, mix 1/2 Maalox and 1/2 (liquid) Benedryl. Swish and spit. When it goes away, get a new toothbrush or it will re-occur every time you bit your lip or nick yourself with your toothbrush.

If you just got it, it's a good thing to keep your eye on it but, I wouldn't worry unless it doesn't go away after about five to ten days. This is the time period for a cancer sore or cold sore in the mouth. If it become larger or forms a head you may want to see a doctor for it. It may have to be lanced.
Smoking doesn't help, it will only irritate it.

seems to me like a kanckersore (misspelled) its painful but it takes time to heal.
