Yep. But shedding doesn't = allergies. It's the dander that most people are allergic to.

I recommend doing some more research on your allergy (what causes it, if you can medicate it, etc). And if your allergy can't be controlled, then don't get a dog. Anyone who sells you a "hypoallergenic" dog is a liar and a bad breeder.

No dog is "easy to take care of". If that's mandatory, then honestly, a cat or rescued hampster may be better for you. Dogs need hours of attention a day. They need someone with money for vet care, food, emergencies, and accessories (like collars, brushes, etc). The need someone who can provide 15-20 years of attention and affection. Something that won't be changed by band camp, college, a new "cooler" dog on TV, work, marriage, babies, etc.

I have a smooth mini and she barely sheds. My Standard Poodle sheds more than my Dachshund.
As a groomer..I have noticed that the smooths really do not shed a whole lot. The roughs (long coated) seem to shed the most. Wires....I really dont see a whole lot of wiredhaired Dachs to comment on them.
I was told by a show breeder that Dachshunds are a good dog for people who suffer from allergies since they are a low dander producing breed.
If you are looking for one...go to the breeders house and hang out with the adult dogs for a while and see how things go.

Even still...its not the hair/shedding that causes allergies..Its the dander and saliva.

Are they easy to care for....eh..smooths dont require a whole lot of grooming..other than a bath , nail trim and ear cleaning. They are prone to back problems. They are and can be very stubborn and can be a bit difficult to house train. But they are cute little dogs.

Dachshunds do shed, but generally not a lot. My dachshunds don't shed that much and I have a long haired and smooth haired. You just need to brush them to keep the shedding to a minimum.

My shorthair sheds a little, but not nearly as much as any other dog I've had.
However, he is pretty easy to take care of, although I have to admit I'm not one for the groomer's.

yes, they have small hairs that shed... some shed quiet a bit...

no dog is easy to take care of .. you need time, obedience classes and most of all a stable enviorment.

Good Luck on your search.

If you mean a dachsund, yes, they can shed, but their hair is SO short (if you dont' get a long-haired variety), it hardly matters. My mimi weenie dog really has no hair on her underbelly, just soft skin!

short haired ones not so much, don't let them up on furniture, when they jump from too high up they can fracture their backs
