Well, being in the Chicago area I can tell you...Chicago style hot dogs, deep dish pizza, Italian beef (sandwiches)...those are all super popular...Oh and I know in Wisconsin that Brat's are big, as is cheese & beer soup, (sounds weird, but it's awesome), and fried cheese curds.

Wow. That's tough because the midwest is kind of a big area. Additionally, you can drive an hour in any direction and the local specialties could be very different.

I'm in Louisville, KY. Some of our unique local dishes include....

The Kentucky Hot Brown

Derby Pie

....and of course, Kentucky Fried Chicken

You can also find biscuits and gravy at many restaurants here.

Cincinnati is about and hour and fifteen minutes away, but you'd have a hard time finding biscuits and gravy. They probably won't know what a hot brown is and they aren't big on frying chicken.

Cincinnati IS famous for Skyline Chili.

Some chili is even called "Cincinnati Style Chili"

Another Cincinnati tradition is "Goetta".

I've never seen goetta in Louisville...although the city was heavily settled by Germans. Go figure.

I'm sure if you do a search on "Indianapolis" or "St. Louis" or "Chicago" cuisines, you'd come up with a completely different list. However, all are considered midwest cities.

Good luck!

Steak and potatoes, corn on the cob, jello salads, pies, strange casseroles made with cream of something soups, also called hot dish. Also, hot beef sandwiches, which is more of a knife and fork meal.

Take 2 slices of white bread and cut them corner to corner so you have a total of 4 triangles. Place 2 slices on a plate like this: < >. Down the middle put 3 scoops of mashed potatoes. Top each triangle with 2-3 oz. of hot roast beef, top with the other 2 triangles of bread. Then take ladles full of beef gravy and cover the whole thing.

It was one of my best sellers in the midwest.
