There's a lot of questions on here asking if The Golden Compass is anti-christian, and stuff like that. Most people answering are saying stuff like,
"Christians are only boycotting this movie because they are bored w/ their own pathetic lives!!!"
Christians are not boycotting this movie because they are, "bored with their own pathetic lives". They're boycotting it because it goes against what they believe in and they don't want to spend their money on or support something that goes against their faith. They believe in God and they're boycotting a movie that is written by a guy who hates God (And yes, he said in an interview that he did.) and this guy wants to turn kids against God by getting them into the movie, then buying the book series and becoming against God. (God is killed in the final book.)
What do you guys think about what people are saying about The Golden Compass? Don't you think it right to stand up for what you believe in?

Someone, else said,
"Christians are against anything that isn't written or made by another christian person, They won't see any movie or read any book that is not christian. This is just how christians are."
This answer doesn't make any sense. My family is christian and we'll read books and see movies that aren't made by christians. I think maybe about only two or three of the 50 movies we own are christian. But, even though we're christian it doesn't mean we'll boycott stuff that isn't christian. The stuff christians boycott is stuff that is AGAINST christians. Like, The Golden Compass is written by a guy who hates God and wants to kill God. He wants to get kids against God. (And yes, he said that on a website.) So, christians don't boycott things that aren't christian, they boycott things that are against christians. Which is a completely different thing. (Oh, and not all christians boycott things that are against christians, but most do.)

And duh, im not STUPID, i know that it's just a movie. MY family isn't boycotting it. I'm still going to see it!!! I just think it's wrong for people to post mean answers and tell people their crazy for standing up for what they believe in.

You seem to doubt your faith if youu are so vehemently opposed to a movie. It was the same with the Da Vinci Code. It is a good story but it is fiction. Is your faith so weak that it cannot accept a work of fiction?
So the guy hates god. Is the story any good? Is it entertaining, because that is all it is meant to be, entertainment.
SORRY, BUT THIS MOVIE ISN'T JUST MEANT TO BE "ENTERTAINMENT", THE GUY WHO WROTE THE SERIES, WANTED A MOVIE TO BE MADE ABOUT IT AND HE WANTED KIDS TO SEE THE MOVIE AND THEN WANT THE BOOK SERIES FOR CHRISTMAS, SO HE COULD GET THEM TO WANT TO KILL GOD. (i KNOW THIS SOUNDS SO STUPID, BUT THIS IS WHAT THE AUTHOR ACTUALLY SAID, IM NOT EVEN KIDDING.) oH, AND i DON'T "DOUBT MY FAITH." I JUST THINK IT'S WRONG TO BE MEAN TO PEOPLE FOR STANDING UP FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN.

Here are 2 direct quotes...
"'My books are about killing God.' So said Philip Pullman, author of The Golden Compass,
" But if there is a God, and he is as the Christians describe him, then he deserves to be put down and rebelled against. " —Philip Pullman, author of the fantasy series His Dark Materials
I wouldn't give that hatetheist a penny of the money I've had to work to earn! Beside I hear the movie is lousy even from the secular reports. A Polar bear that is one of the heros in a kids movie and drinks Whiskey and gets drunk, have your own demons... sounds like a rather disturbed mind wrote it to me. The brain is like the rest of the body... put junk in it shows... I'll pass on the junk!

Obviously if people hold to a cheished belief and it is attacked then they would not be inclined to support it. People who are saying it is just a movie probably are not holding strong views of Christianity. If something they were into was attacked they would probably not want to support it either. I made up my mind this week that I would not spend money to see the Golden Compass. No one told me to do that it was my own decision. If another Christian goes to see the film that is up to him or her. I would not tell them they should not see it. I would just tell them what I know about it. This is a topic for a person's own conviction since the Bible does not prohibit a beliver from seeing movies in general. They may want to evaluate further. I have read several articles about it and seen the promo (the first 5 minutes) and i know enough to know what it is about. Animals are called demons in the opening intro of the film. Animals which are depicted as pets or friends are being passed as as a demon which would make younger childern more accepting of the idea of demons. If there is an organized boycott so what? Is there not freedom of the press and freedom to not partake in some of that press also? If this movie is not a big financially grossing picture then it will persuade some movie producers not to make these kinds of movies. I just hope people who boycott have their own pesonal understanding about the movie otherwise they will not seem that rational to protest something they may not understand.

I am a Christian, I have seen movies that aren't by Christians (Harry Potter, Meet the Robinsons). I have to say that if you think this guy is wrong in what he's doing (which he is) then why are you supporting him by going to see the movie? You would only be encouraging him to make more movies, books, etc. Yes, i do think its right to stand up for what you believe in, that's why I'm not going to see it. I am utterly disappointed in some of these other answers putting us Christians down, I really thought they were better than that. Christians aren't becoming "more radical," we are only becoming less like that world.

All the chatter about the movie got me curious, so I had to see it, of course.
I would never have become a Harry Potter fan, if it weren't for all the Christian chatter about the books and the movies.
Harry Potter turned out to be bright, funny, and immensely entertaining! I have all the books, and most of the movies that have already come out...
Yes, I know Rowling claims that Dumbledore is supposed to be gay, but, if she truly did have that in her mind when she created the character, it doesn't come across very well in the book...
I can't say the same for The Golden Compass, though.
It was trite, boring, and downright snore-making...
Yep, I'm afraid the movie put me to sleep...
Sorry, Pullman!
EDIT:
I LOVE that quote Todd posted from C.S. Lewis!
It does seem to me that atheists (at least in this forum) spend an awful lot of time being angry at an entity they insist does not exist...

"Lyra gets to the bottom of the mystery of the missing children and finally, she and some others rebel and kill a character called, "God", specifically YAHWEH." Which part was that? She got to the bottom of the missing kids in the first book and she didn't rebel against God at all. I believe that Lyra and Will accidentally released the first angel, known as The Authority from his protective prison and his particles scatter to the wind but I'd hardly call that killing, and besides, he expresses a feeling of peace after being released from his prison. Did you even read the books?

Yeah, I agree to a point. I'm not going out of my way to boycott stuff like that. If there is something that I do not agree with, then I will not rent it, buy it, or watch it. It is simple as that. I don't see any reason to give any money to something that isn't going for a good cause or that doesn't have any good in it. It's that simple.

Personally i feel that if you give a movie that kind of power-which you are- Then it becomes more popular than if you just silently held onto your beliefs. I mean look at Harry Potter.
Yes I believe in standing up for what you believe in but, - Choose your battles wisely.

I believe in free speech and the right to make up my own mind if I want to see a movie or not.
I'm against eating Brussel sprouts. I think they're really disgusting. I'm not going to boycott them as I understand this is just my OPINION, and others do like them.
UM, Guess what? The author is standing up for what HE believes in. So go ahead and boycott. I guarantee it won't do anything. The movie is still going to play, people will still go see it and in the end, nothing. So, If you want to waste your time boycotting a movie for.. What? go ahead.

I fully understand and support what your trying to inform us about here.
And wow, shocking. I didn't know that God was killed in the final novel. How can someone think of such a thing and want others to believe it?? Thankfully in reality God is almighty!
