I am in California and they are all around me. They are too fixed-up for me. I know they go in all shuffling and frowning and mumbling like the rest of us slobs. But they come out happy and focused and somehow better looking. I guess it is the smiles and actually paying attention when you are talking.

Think about it. Even the celebs. Crusie, Travolta, Kristie Allen, that Seinfeild guy. They all seem good looking on the moving screen but in still pictures they aren't so hot.

I don't know about the religion. Even their Sunday services don't mention much religion stuff. From what I see none of them are much in any religion stuff. Most of the people going to their courses still claim their old religion which is apparently OK with the scientologists.

I was raised in a Scientology household, but I don't follow it much anymore. I give it credit as a religion, since it deals with one's spiritual well being. There are a lot of good and helpful aspects to Scientology. I have to say that my learning has greatly benifited from the Study Tech (a series of courses on how to study and learn more effectivly), and doing the Volunteer Minister course (a fairly good sized course that goes through the Scientology Handbook, and addresses how to handle various parts of every day life for yourself and others) was one of the best choices I've made. But, as I said, I have strayed away from the church. Even though I believe a lot of what they say to be true, I'm not so keen on how it's always applied, and the way the church is run. Plus I had a bit of a trip up with them when I was younger, involving joining Sea Org (the top organization where the upper levels of training are done), and other things. But, although I don't agree with the church so much, the beliefs and ideas are mostly good. They do good work.

Really? Do you?
Im an ex-scientologist and I think it does alot of good. I took the Personal Communications course and the Better Studying course. According to the anti-scientology sites most people take the first couple of cheaper courses and then leave like I did.

For people who need the others they arent bad either. Fighting peer pressure, detox (getting off drugs and alcohol), 1-on-1 counseling for things that are blocking you in life. And none of the costs are that extreme compared to the alternatives that offer the same thing.

All of the scientologists I have actually met (notice the key things here, I have tried it and I have actually met some) all of them were happy, open, and focused with their goals. I know that people can get that way on their own but I saw some pretty messed up people get fairly straightened up there.

I never saw or heard any of the weird stuff that people keep posting from anti-sites and cartoons.

It's a religion invented by a hack sci-fi writer who once commented: "If you want to get rich, invent your own religion."

They believe that human being souls are that of aliens that crashed landed here ages ago * that a child should be born into a quiet atmosphere, meaning the mother can't scream from the pain (obviously a man invented this) * psychology is an evil thing - those who are mentally ill should exercise more * that you must tell your mentor everything, recruit others and work up in levels * each level costs money, more and more money * that you must follow your mentor's advice * that the final level - clear - is obtainable and you'll reunite with those alien souls.

That's some of it

Even though I think it's crazy to worship aliens and believe you are possessed by evil forces, Scientologists have the same right to worship whatever they please.. and if you think about it, it's not any crazier than anyone else's ideas..

If you sit quietly you will attain a higher consciousness.
If you drink the blood of some ancient Iraqi, you'll live forever.
Praying to candles will make someone fall in love with you.
There is no God, this is all just random chance.
You are possessed of evil aliens, hold these two sticks...

I mean really..

It is just another religion. Many religions claim outrageous claims, this one just has more of a sci-fi feel to it. I don't claim it has more or less veracity than any other system of belifs, but it does seem to me as another ploy for people to make money.

I don't know much about it besides they're anti-drugs and have silent births...

Other than that not much, but I don't know even to tell you whether I approve or not, but either way I wouldn't try to stop people from believing it.

This is not a religion but a cult.
It was started by an individual (L.Ron.Hubbard).
They brain-wash people & charge exhorbitant fees.
