Hey. My family is thinking about moving to Ireland, somewhere around Dublin. Does anyone know a good place to move. I will be going to high school there too, so if you have any school suggestions that would help. Thank you very much.

Lucan is a nice place, there's loads of nice places like Santry,Castleknock (houses are exoensive there), Sandymount, Foxrock and Leixlip is nice but thats in Kildare.

Dublin is very expensive, and the surrounding counties (e.g. Wicklow to the south, Louth to the north etc) are becoming more so. There are quite a few commuter towns surrounding the city these days.
Most areas in Dublin are fine - the south side (south of the river Liffey) is generally seen as more posh, but that's really a sterotype. there are nice areas on both sides, e.g. Drumcondra on the north, and Rathgar on the south.
Regarding schools, I saw this today in the Irish Independent (newspaper) and thought I'd include it. It's a list of the 'feeder' school to universities and institutes of technology in the country, so it might help you with a school suggestion. Having said that, just because a school isn't included here doesn't necessarily mean it's bad - the school I went to isn't included in the top 400 and I got through college just fine! Of course, this will also depend on whether or not you actually wanted to further your education once you finish school.
One more thing - almost all 'high' schools are called secondary schools here (attended from ages 13-18, roughly) and most have uniforms too. Good luck with the move.

I wouldn't go to Dublin,(not that I don't like it, it's just that there are better places) I'd go west.....anywhere, it's all good.
High school is called secondary school, drinking is culturally acceptable (underage too) the is a "I don't mind *bending* the law as long as the no victim" mentality among Irish people
Best thing I can do for you is direct you to Des Bishop's DVD - he's an American comedian that move here in his teens................ He'll give you the best American impression of Ireland.

I agree with mostly what everyone said almost. Outside of Dublin is the best not right in dublin. Go to Eircom.net and look at houses around the city Wexford is nice too,

I have a friend whom now resides in Co. Cork (south of Dublin) And she lived in Meath for 7-10 yrs I do recall, It's better to stay out of the big city & 4 UR parents to commute (drive into city for work) Plus I think schooling would (HS) be better with smaller classrooms.

Some idiot still thins there is no peace in ireland......there is. its all the media. no disrespect but look at hte violence in the US, the IRA were around in the 70's.
Dublin is split by the river liffey so u have north and south side. the south side generally is a nicer, posher, cleaner place but places in the north side are too. Out of the inner city on the north side you have nice places like Castleknock and Swords, places to avoid on northside are blanchardstown.
Outside inner city on southside everywhere is fine except for tallaght, ballyfermot and ballymun.
WE are really expensive but there is plenty of jobs and shopping centres, The weather is bad but when you have a bar nearby its fine.
Outside of dublin is an option like County louth or county Meath

Have they been there before? If they haven't, I suggest spending a couple of weeks there in January or February to see the country at its worst. Then decide. And I wouldn't move to the Dublin area, house prices are still ridiculous.

Depends on how much money you have........ D4 (Dublin 4= postcode) is like the posh part of Dublin whereas Ballymun is the poor part!

Dublin is the pits....Grimey dirty dull and wet!
Please talk ur family into staying in the states.. u wont understand the locals...try a holiday first.
