I live in a unfenced rental home... I can't keep these kids out of my yard!!! I have said a couple of times "please play in your own yard" dosen't work...
I hate confrontation and I have a soft spot for kids. But, this children are out of control. They run around like screaming banshees, curse, throw balls at my house, hang on my tool shed, climb on my porch, get in the garden, etc. ( i think you get the point.) I think they are age range 5-12. Oh, and their mother in my opinion should be on jerry springer. She's 300 lbs and quite frankly SCARES ME! =(
I am just afraid that they will get hurt and sue me. (you just hear so many crazy stories.) also not to mention my husband works midnights and sleeps in the day with these SREAMING kids....Any help would be great thanks! =)

I live in a house that's in between the landlord's house and a part of the yard where the kids like to play. It ended up being really easy for the landlord's kids to walk across my front deck to get to the side yard. Several times, I asked nicely for them to please take the extra three steps to go around my deck (mostly because it was driving me crazy that there was constantly someone at my front door).

They kept ignoring me, until one day when I was standing near the door as they went by. Bolstered with a bit of liquid courage from earlier in the day, I simply stuck my head out the door and said, "Stop walking through my yard!". I didn't really yell, but said it forcefully, and gave the poor kids a bit of a start. My husband scolded me for it, but it worked! They haven't cut through since!

I'd try telling them without saying please. Don't let it be them doing something nice for you. Let it be a situation where the rule is they don't play there, and if they come over, they're breaking the rules.

If it doesn't stop, I'd ask the local police department to do a driveby. You don't have to call for an emergency in order to have them come out. Even if the kids aren't doing anything illegal, they'll be scared out of their wits to know that the cops might bust 'em!

Definitely call the police and file a report. The more reports you file, then when something really bad happens (i.e. broken window, stolen items, damage to other personal property) then there is a record of the report and they will be the first to be questioned. Other than that, put up a fence, get a dog and securely post a Beware of Dog sign on the fence. IF they cross over the fence then you have grounds to call the police because they are not only trespassing but harassing your dog. That will get their parents attention. Its a lot more work to play in someones yard when you have to jump the fence, than it is to just ride into it on your razor scooter.

Wet grass is no fun to play in. Maybe you should water your yard during their play hours. That is just a temporary fix, I don't know a real solution. Maybe making your yard and porch univiting will help some. I would put things in their way. Make it have less appeal and no room to play on the porch. Even if it is temporary fixtures, they will become less interested and find somewhere else to hang all over.

These probably aren't the best ideas, but it's better to try than nothing at all.

I also have a dog, he does his business in my yard, no one likes to walk in our grass either.

I love kids, too, but when you work nights, like I used to, so I feel for your husband, you need your sleep. My neighbors kids used to play in our yard and run up and down the stairs outside our door. I hated to be mean and do it but I yelled for them to go play somewhere else enough times that they finally did.
