First, "global warming" is not the issue that it is made out to be. These scare tactics come along about every 15-20 years and people fall for them every time! In the 60s we were told "over-population" would be the culprit by the year 2000. In the 70s, we were supposed to be dealing with an ICE AGE at the turn of the century (are you freezing?) In the 80s it was Acid Rain. NONE of these "scares" have come true, that have been foretold. Do we have environmental issues? Yes!

We can contribute to saving our environment by doing things such as: stopping deforestation in the rainforests, which can protect endangered species. I did a thesis on 'Deforestation' which seems to be the biggest contribution to "greenhouse gases." We're eliminating trees by the hectacres for people to grow crops which fail in 3-5 years, because the soil does not have the nourishment to replenish year after year. Deforestation strips the soil of nutrients because they bulldoze much of the topsoil out when they mutilate the land. What little nutrients are left, are spent up by farming in a few years. There were rainforests there before and we are killing many species, perhaps future medical cures, in this madness called 'deforestation' which needs to stop. It's not just in S. America, it's global.

Re: Global Warming and humans: "One of the world’s foremost meteorologists, Dr. William Gray, has joined the scientific dissent, calling global warming a theory of “people who don’t understand how the atmosphere works.” At a packed lecture hall in North Carolina, the 78-year-old Gray, a pioneer in the science of seasonal hurricane forecasts, said humans are not responsible for the warming of the earth. Instead, it occurs naturally through ocean cycles." Also, there are many other meteorologists and climatologists who have been following this for many years, who are extremely skeptical about some of the inflated claims made about global warming.

What we can do to help our environmental issues:
1. We need to plant more trees to absorb more carbon dioxide.
2. Stop flying private planes, unless you take the maximum amount of people safely. (Then Cheryl Crow can use more toilet paper!)
3. Start car pooling.
4. Use mass transit, if available.
5. Recycle whatever you can.
6. Conserve electricity by turning off lights you aren't using, turn off the tv if nobody's watching it.
7. Turn up or down your home thermostat 5 degrees while you're at work depending on the season. If you have a programmable thermostat, set it to temperatures for your lifestyle habits. Same for vacations, as long as nobody is at home; turn off and unplug appliances that are not being used i.e. toaster, iron, tv's, etc.
8. Don't litter our highways, streams, parks, or anywhere for that matter.
9. Use energy efficient appliances, look for the "star" rating when buying.
10. When you run errands, map out your day, so you use less fuel.
I live in the country, so I have to drive, but if you live in the city walk or ride a bike whenever possible, besides, it's healthier.

Good luck on that paper!

I've just done someone's homework for them but if you look at some of the recent questions and answers on here you'll get lots of ideas. Check out some of the websites that have been linked to. Here's a starting point for you, a website written in easy to understand terms and condensed from a long scientific report I wrote a few months ago http://profend.com/global-warming/pages/intro.html

Any little thing a person does can help. Use facts like ,500,000 trees could be saved from being cut down if every family in the United States recycled their newspaper,Dishwashers use about 11 gallons of water. Hand washed dishes use up approximately 16 gallons.

The only way to prey upon a person and persuade them that the myth of AGW is true is to take advantage of their lack of an education. Most people (99.95%) are stupid! You have to use propaganda. Josef Stalin and Joseph Goebbles used this technique to great effect. You must deny history, science, and common sense, so that you can force people to accept a false assumption, and therefore arrive at an absurd conclusion. Al Gore is a master of this, so was Mao! Go Al and Mao!! Burn books, smash computers, do whatever to advance the party political view.
