I don't think that's alcoholism, but I think I'm in the minority. It seems most people say that any drinking alone is alcoholic drinking, but what if you live alone? Does that mean you can never have a drink? I think that's ridiculous. A couple drinks in the evening is no big deal. As long as you are responsible, don't drink and drive, keep your committments...then, who cares? Doesn't necessarily mean you're alcoholic, imho.

The definition of alcoholism is so complex, it's too simple to say if having a few drinks alone makes you an alcoholic. Before I stopped drinking,I'd have a few drinks before I went out-to get that buzz and to make it a cheaper evening. I still dont know if I'm alcoholic. I do know I stopped drinking 27 years ago-on my own and dont really want to drink now. It's an incredibly individual thing. You might stop and ask yourself why you're asking this question.

It is not bad to drink alone. However, I question your reason for doing so. I will drink alone because I love the taste. To drink to get a small buzz might be alcoholism or marginal alcoholism. Then again, being an alcoholic might be like being pregnant. You either are or you are not. There are not degrees.

It all depends on if you feel you "need" them. People mistakenly think an alcoholic is a fall in the street, always drunk person, not so.

Anytime you cannot go without for any length of time, you have a problem that needs to be looked into, whether you drink alone or with a crowd.

Ask yourself this; why do you need that "buzz"?

It really depends on how often you have a couple drinks to get a buzz. A few times a month doesn't make you an alcoholic. But a few times a week puts you on the path.

if it is done on a daily basis then it can be come one. trying to maintain a buzz is one step away fro m becoming an alcoholic. drinking to have a drink once in a while is ok but not to get buzzed on purpose. that is dangerous. because soon it will turn from a couple drinks to 4 drinks then 6. Not good at all.

If you go out with friends or even alone and get buzzed without even realizing it (ex. you didn't go out with getting buzzed in mind) then thats what I would consider being a "casual drinker"
However, If you go out looking forward to getting buzzed or drunk then you might have an alcohol problem. Especially if you're drinking alone and at home, thats a dead giveaway.

If this is the case, start attending AA meeting in your area and try to make them everyday. The first step in overcoming alcoholism is admitting you have a problem.

I just opened a beer in your honor. I'm here with my 3 dogs. Does that count as being alone?
Seriously, a few drinks for a small buzz is not a problem whether you are alone or not. It's safer to drink a little at home alone than to drink at a bar and drive home.
Now drink one for me...

Personally, I cannot see the reason to have a drink in the week unless it is for a reason. I could never come home from work and think, hey lets drink alcohol instead of any other variation of a liquid source in my house. I wouldn't say you are an alcoholic, but it could be to do with more psychological reasons.

That depends how often you're doing this.

Once a week or a couple times a month? Not much to worry about...

Every day? Seriously look for some help with your drinking addiction.
