Middy
Ny
Night
Mid

you will probably end up just calling him midnight, and then shortening it to Middy, or Mid. I have 2 dogs named Booker (we didn't name him) and Eloise. We call them:
Book
Bookie
Booger (when I was little I would say K like G, so Booker was booger)
Books
Big Handsome Boy

El
Ellie
Weezer
Weeze
El-weeze (Eloise quickly)
Weezie
Fatty-McButterPants (she's fat!)

Shortened names just come, and some nicknames are from no where.

I seem to shorten my animals' names to something with '-ie' at the end. For example, my cats names are Aw-liver (like 'Oliver') and Gigue (pronounced 'Jig'). I call Aw-liver,'Awlie' and Gigue, 'Gigue-sie' (or Gigues sometimes). Perhaps 'Midnight' could be shortened to 'Middie'? I think that's cute, short and easy to say!

cheers

i think need answers is right, the name along with the cat, will grow on you.
my cat's name was t'pring when we adopted her, and it fits, but when we got her that was just a weird name, and it did grow on us, just like the cat.
