Under certain "signing statements" Bush has given himself the authrotiy to declare Martial Law for practicaly any reason. Id like to think we would and should resist but are our men in uniform be they military or police loyal to the constitution or to the Preisdent? If its the latter I fear the worst may be yet to come.

Martial law refers to the military not local law enforcement...besides we have enough on our hands with regular crime.

Are you seriously lying awake at night worrying about this?

Why do you think President Bush would want to impose a dictatorship?

What makes you think that the government could even pull off a stunt like that?

We have the right to keep and bear arms for a reason. If we ever needed to, we could rise up against a corrupt govenrment. Its the Conservative movement that fights to protect that right, by the way.

I'm very sad for you that something as completely left field as this is keeping you up nights.

Every single president in our life time has had this authority and to my knowledge none has used it. Obviously if he blindly uses it to remain in office he'll be kicked out physically when the time is due. Obviously if martial law is ordered for the protection of our nation from a real and viable threat it will be carried out.

in 1981, I had a similar converstion with my landlord, who was Cuban and had fled Castro's regime when he took over. He said he fled in a boat and had to drink his own urine to survive the trip. I thought he was crazy when he said the same thing could happen to our country, but now I'm not so sure - although it would not be communist - it would be fascist under Bush. It could happen

I would go along with it if it was the only way to protect the nation from being destroyed. But if it was not a good reason i would do everything in my power to stop it from happening.

I think you're confused. When martial law is imposed, the military takes over, not law enforcement.

If I felt that the order was legal I would obey it.

If Bush told them to jump off a bridge, they'd delightfully line up. Don't you know? Us liberal trolls should have more passion for our president!
