My Cadillac catera 1998 car key broke. I paid $180 for a new key with a special chip in it from a lock smith. The key came from a cadillac dealer. The code in the key has been programmed. The security system is functioning however the starter will not turn over. I've disconnected the battery to reset the system with no luck. Does anyone know of a fuse or relay that could be causing the problem? And does anyone know where it is located?

you need to have the theft deterant relearned on the vehicle
only a dealer with a tech 2 can do this. or you can try putting car on a battery charger and leaving key on for 30 minutes
may have to do this 3 times. if this doesn't work tow it to the dealer

If the car is equipped with Onstar, hit the blue button and have them run a field diagnostics test.

If it is not, have a garage or the dealer pull the fault codes from the car (there is a cable interface where they download the codes) and they may be able to clear the fault codes for you.

You can take it to a dealer or to a locksmith and they can check it for you. You must have only one key for your car.
