I recently bought some clothes online and they just came in the mail. I tried on the jeans but they're a little tight, and the return policy says they can't accept "washed, worn, soiled, or altered" clothing. So since I tried on the jeans, does this mean I can't return them?

Certainly not. After all, you couldn't try them on through the mail. And many mail order businesses even provide boxes on the return form with options to check, including "too big" and "too little." I doubt that the jeans look any more "worn" after you tried them on than they would have after someone tried them on in the store. So send 'em back.

Note: Be sure the company will accept returns without a "permission to return" slip from them.

No they mean if you've worn them for a period of time, like 30 minutes or more. Enough to make them look like they've been 'worn' and to maybe smell different than when they were still on the rack. It's just common sense.

If you can't tell that they have been worn, then neither can they!

Hey I got an idea... Why dont you tell her to sell ALL her clothes on Ebay. Once it is sold, (which she can probably get tons of money from) she can go shopping for a completely new wardrobe; a wardrobe that matches and that you can find things to wear. That way, she starts from scratch and has no excuse on that she cant find anything to wear. instrunct her to only buy things that are flexable so she can mix it up with other items. its an idea.

You can return them. They mean they don't want you returning jeans that are faded and have been machined washed and obviously been "worn in".
