When i cracked my ankle bone i had enormous amount of pain, i could not walk or move at all! I had to be carried. It was the worst physical pain in my life! One slightest move would make me cry. A friend of mine broke a bone and she could walk, also i heard more experiences from people about breaking their bone and they all managed to walk. My bone almost split in half, it wasn't broken into two pieces.

Cracked and broken bones are essentially the same thing, fractures. It is the degree to which they are fractured and the kind of fracture that they are, that determines the course of treatment for them. I guess your situation is proof that an incomplete fracture can be more painful than a complete one!

Well I'd guess it depends what bone they broke. The ankle bone is actually the end of one of your two major leg bones, so even if you crack it it's going to be extremely painful, especially if the bone you break is the one that bears more weight. If your friend completely breaks a bone in her foot, she may have been able to walk since there are so many small bones past your heel that share the load.

Part of the reason you may have been able to break your ankle only partially is because you were still growing at the time, thus your bones were more flexible and cartilaginous. When you put weight on that leg, you probably irritated the break and stretched the broken bone apart, causing much more pain.

A simple answer is that everyone has different pain thresholds, but if you want to get specific and scientific, there you go.

Hope that helps :)

In my experience, it just depends on the location. Our nerves are more concentrated in different places. I've broken about 7 or 8 bones in my hands. Sometimes it hurt, and sometimes I didn't even know it happened.

In your case, you could have other damage. The ankle has a lot of ligaments, tendons, and little muscles you can strain or tear. You can even damage nerves which obviously causes pain. Good luck! If you're still injured, get well soon.
