Thomas Jefferson:
I have examined all the known superstitions of the world, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the earth.
John Adams:
Where do we find a precept in the Bible for Creeds, Confessions, Doctrines and Oaths, and whole carloads of other trumpery that we find religion encumbered with in these days?
even the founding fathers knew to keep Christianity ( OK ANY religion) out of our gov.

I find arguments that the violence present in the US is due to a lack of a particular Christian god in public places to be so ignorant and contradictory.
I find it so irritating when they equate natural disasters or mass violence as signs from god etc. There are human and scientific causes for everything.
And what I find especially hilarious is that bit about tithing where he says it would be better to give a certain amount of money to the church for the unfortunate.
I dont disagree that Churches have done a lot of good as per the unfortunate but this is what I see as wrong:
a) almost always there is the religious element; they give you food and medicine but they want you to accept their god. Think Missionaries.
b) all throughout history money that people have donated to their church has gone towards providing lavish lifestyles for the clergy (this still continues today with the televangelists) and now to fund lawsuit money for all the clergy sex abuse cases.

This is very frightening. History has shown that religion and politics to not mesh well. The Spanish Inquisition is one such atrocity. The witch hunts in Salem another. The madness in the middle east is yet another example if anyone still needs convincing. When one religion becomes too powerful in the political setting, it is a recipe for disaster. Intolerance, deaths, injustices against people who do not believe as the "Political Power" believes would become the norm. I for one would set up camp in the mountains away from it all if that happened.

Laz's Mouse here-speaking from experience, Huckabee's heart is (usually) in the right place, his intentions are good; but we all know what it is that paves the road to he77, don't we? Mr. Huckabee has one additional character flaw-foot in mouth disease...however, given the choice between Mr. H and The Evil Billary, I'd choose Huckleberry every time!-p&l
btw- just a funny, but spell check wants to change Billary to "Biliary"-an apt description as well, lol!
laz here-i have to wonder if huckabee would be christian in his approach to government and ask everyone to tithe or will he be just another greedy politician who is pandering to the religious right and will grab ever bit of cash he can get

Really stupid.
How can man take back a nation for God
What would you say to me if i said i am taking back R&S for Jesus , it most likely won't be polite.
Turning to God is something you chose to do , not forced to do.
Would not a Church run state still be run by men ,just because they call themselfs Christian means nothing , look at all the scandles involeing christians from pedophile priests to con men tv preaches who cheat on their partners and steal from the church plate.
By the way what if Jesus don't want it back ?

This is the heart of everyone who is redeemed. Jesus loves this nation. If our nation will humble itself & repent of every wicked way, God will heal our land.
This is only scary to the devil & those who the devil intimidates.
In response, Jesus loves other countries too. God so loved the world (all the people in the world... John3:16.
Thanks for that web site. My spirit is stirred. I think all Republican Christians should vote for Huckelbee in the Primary. Just to make a point. Christians want Christ back in this nation. Democrat Christians will have to vote for a Democrat in the Primary (at least here in WA).
Jesus loves us according to what was prophecied by Kim Clement. And Jesus loves Iranians & Jesus loves Iraqis &Jesus loves Israel, etc... http://www.kimclement.com .

Wow...
This guy is turning into exactly what I was afraid of.
I am a conservative, but this guy scares the crap out of me.
If the election comes down to the theocratic Huckabee or the Socialist Hillary I will seriously consider moving...

Consider the location of the source of the story--Salt Lake City. Christianity is in direct opposition to Mormonism.

If anyone is going to do that it's not Huckabee - it will be God.
Over-reaching himself just a tiny bit.
