I made a fish pie today (well, tried)
Screwed up all the ingrediants weights etc.
Not any old fish pie, but one where I had to juice and grate Lemons, finely cut garlic cloves, skin haddock etc etc....
I'm mad as hell at myself.
Any advise (I'll settle for better luck next time)
Arrgggg ....
Wife has gone out for fish n chips for two whilst I clean up :-((

yup
i have, anyone who spends time in the kitchen does, dont let it bother you
keep on trying., and dont feel bad. :-)
my wife once forgot she was boiling eggs, and when they ran out of water, they exploded, we had egg shrapnel alllll over the kitchen so dont feel too bad. Now I admit that boiled eggs arent in the category of a "good meal" but they were part of a recipe.
At least your meal wasnt lethal with exploding entrees!
And yes, it was my fault she forgot what she was doing!!

Yep. Half way through cooking the main course I realised I was missing an ingredient for the dessert so I nipped out to the local shop. There I met an old friend, stood talking and completely forgot I'd got dinner on the hob. Got home to a house full of smoke, a dinner that resembled a cremation and a ruined pan. Had to phone for a pizza.

I would LOVE to come to your place for a meal. Don't pancake! Mrs Sleigh & I could discuss which takeaway we'd prefer for later!
Seriously, you should take top marks for effort. They DO say that cooking for someone else is an act of love, so lucky Sleigh family for that.
(I have to say though, that I'm also with Absolute Rotter's line on this - jolly good show old chap, one just can't get the bl**dy staff these days, can one?)
I HATE cooking, but for health reasons now, have to be rather careful what I eat. Fish pie sounds okay though.
BTW what happened with all your health stuff, yuo were abit worried about things before - hope all is okay?
best wishes to you & yours, buddy

I'm actually famous for it. I can follow the recipe's instructions to the letter, and still have it go wrong.
Last night's roast was horribly dry, despite the fact that I covered it in foil and cooked it with vegetables.
At a holiday meal, I actually tried to steam my broccoli without any water (nearly burned it before I figured it out!). I once made cornbread with no leavener.
The good news is that my husband is a good cook, and actually enjoys it. Otherwise, we'd end up eating Hamburger Helper and frozen green beans most nights!

Yes, while at college training to be a chef, I needed cajun spice mix for a sweet potato soup. We were out of it and the teacher offered to make some up for me. I used it all that he gave me, and continued making the soup. When I tried it my mouth was on fire and my lips continued tingling a long time after. I forgot that I only had to use a certain quantity of the mix, and my teacher had made that quantity many times over!!!!

I was making lobster and crab bisque, which I've done many times. However, I was running late and zoomed through the store to pick up the whipping cream. I didn't check the label, used it, and it turned out so sickeningly sweet. It was horrible. I couldn't figure out what I did wrong. So I dug the carton out of the trash. In my haste, I had grabbed BAKERS CREAM. We had to toss all that great crab and lobster in the trash.

I have made a few meals that required large amounts of beer to forget, so yes, I have screwed up a meal. If you keep cooking you will improve, the occasional disaster is just the price you have to pay to learn.

I experimented making a spaghetti sauce with a habanero chili. I had to throw the whole dish out it was so hot. Plus, the chili oil on my fingers burned my tallywhacker when I had to use the bathroom. Ouch.
