Every time I make lasagna, I go pasta, cheese, sauce, repeat.

But on the box of pasta, the picture looks SO pretty...

pasta, cheese, pasta, meat sauce, pasta, cheese, pasta, meat, sauce, pasta, sauce.

It looks so much prettier, but will it bake well? Do you need the sauce and cheese touching, or does the layer of pasta in the middle suffice?

Thanks in advance.

Yours can look just like the picture as well have fun with your cooking and not always depend on the box. The instruction are that you layer! and that's lasagna. I use a deep dish casserole dish and have at least 5 layers. Start by lightly coating the bottom with some sauce, then a layer of pasta, meat, cheese, and lightly cover with sauce, start your second layer and repeat, until the desired thickness/layers, top with pasta, sauce and cover with cheese. bake until cheese is melted and then let sit before serving....
I like using a combination of meats, lean ground beef, sweet Italian sausage, ground pork. brown all meats together and I like to use a little garlic, salt and pepper, onion.
Cheese, Mozzarella, Ricotta, Romano, and Parm
for your cheese topping I add the Parm cheese last so that you get a nice crust.

I do pasta, sauce then cheese, and repeat - and it always works great - this way, the cheese and stuff melts into your sauce, instead of sliding around on the pasta...try it that way and see if it helps!

This is how my family does it:

smear of sauce in bottom of pan to keep noodles from sticking. layer of noodles. layer of cheese. sauce. repeat.

Without the smear of sauce in the bottom of the pan, you run the risk of burning the noodles to the bottom of the pan. (I'm not saying it happens all the time, but it's always possible.)
